Thinking of going to London next May for a week and was going to fly out of Chicago O'Hare to London's Heathrow airport.  Not planning on renting a car, since I've heard there are quite a few public transportation options. Any tips on what do or see?

Prince Charles cinema rules:

Checking out The Mousetrap (world's longest running show) is a good idea too. It's a good play and you get to be a part of history.

If you're into Medieval Times type spectacle, you'll probably like Medieval Banquet:

Good food to boot.

A visit to Baker Street could be fun if you're a Sherlock Holmes fan. I never did go inside the museum they have there, but I enjoyed the visit from an "I've been there" perspective. And if you're into Harry Potter a visit to King's Cross station might be in order.

Then there's obviously all the usual suspects like Picadilly circus, Oxford street, Harrod's, London Eye, Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, etc.

Once you're there, get yourself a copy of TimeOut magazine - it is THE source on what's going on in London (their website has quite a lot of info, too).

Perhaps this pass could be useful.

Information on London public transport is here. Quite right to avoid renting a car, because you'll be stuck in traffic all the time, there's the congestion charge to pay, they drive on the (arguably  ) wrong side of the road and indeed public transport will get you practically everywhere.

More info on the city is here.

Some other suggestions: Madame Tussaud's, Natural History Museum, Imperial War Museum, London Zoo, Science Museum, Buckingham Palace, etc, etc...

If you're into detectives there's Great Scotland Yard (also where scenes of Harry Potter were shot), the former New Scotland Yard building near the Houses of Parliament and the current one of course.

Fans of James Bond might want to see the SIS building at Vauxhall Cross.

Frankly, the list is endless.....

Enter the next plane that goes to Hamburg.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Thank you for the tips, so far. Prince Charles Cinema looks awesome, especially since they are still showing Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. I'm a huge Harry Potter fan, so I'll have to check out King's Cross and look for platform 9 3/4.  As for Mousetrap I will have to check that out as well, so I can be a part of history like Astrakan said.

I just can't believe how cheap the flight is though at $682 round trip on British Airways for economy class. For another $200 I can upgrade to Premium Economy, which is something I might go with, so I can use my laptop to watch movies.

Gosh, I saw The Mousetrap at that same theater 37 years ago, and it was already the longest running play.
