| Posted: | | | | Some people are really good at doing profile updates, provided that they have the disc and credit roll as source material. So this got me thinking ...
Were two people so inclined, it seems that it should be possible to use a video editing tool to save just the credits section of the film to an MPEG (or whatever) video file format that could be accessed by a player, which then could be either burned and mailed or transferred electronically to the party having the time and knowing what to do with the information.
Heard of anyone doing this? |

| Posted: | | | | Something like that. Someone once transcribed the full crew credits for me, so that I could pick out those needed for DVDProfiler purposes and contribute to the profile.
While it might be technically possible to rip a DVD or BluRay and just save the credit-section to a MPEG-file, this procedure is still outlawed in several countries (e.g. Germany). Germany in this case has a very schizophrenic copyright law: While they grant you the right to make copies for personal use, provided you own the DVD/BluRay, they disallow to circumvent any kind of copy-protection ... This results in copying is not allowed. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | When I'm not in the mood to type in the credits, I just make screen grabs (stills) and save them for later. Saves me from having to dig up the disc again and it's also a good reference. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

And how again do you make B-rD screengrabs without circumventing the copy-protection? | | | Don't confuse while the film is playing with when the film is played. [Ken Cole, DVD Profiler Architect] |

I guess in theory you would be on some XP MCE or later windows box with DRM built into all the drivers and such, and then have a separate screen grab program capture the DVD player frame. But I'm just guessing -- it might not work at all. It's part of why I'm still running Win2k! |

Guess how many pictures you'll have from the complete credits of eg The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. | | | Don't confuse while the film is playing with when the film is played. You can then copy/paste the text into the cast and crew sections of DVD Profiler. I'm not sure if it would save any time though. Probably be faster just to enter the cast/crew manually while watching the credits roll. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |
