Does anybody have the iPhone on Verizon?  If so, how is it?  Any problems with bad reception or call quality?

I have an iPod touch, which runs the same OS as the iPhone, which means the apps I already have will work on it so I am not looking to go Droid so, please, let's not make this a Droid vs iPhone thread.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know much.  I do know that unlike AT&T, you can't browse and talk at the same time.  And I think the current incarnation is slower than the AT&T version (talking about 3G here).  But I'm not 100% sure of that.

Beyond that, I've not heard any negative things about reception or call quality.  But I'm AT&T, so I've not really looked for Verizon reports.

One site I visit where you may get a better answer would be www.macrumors.com.

Nationwide, call quality dropping issues are about the same for both major carriers. ATT seems to be better in motion, Verizon seems to do better at standstill.  Some cities, Verizon is Better, others ATT is better.  Talk and Surf simultaneously is a nice feature if you use it, so is tethering (mobile hotspot) (if you use or need it).  GSM (ATT) is also more of a world, than CDMA (Verizon) (If you travel much outside the US).  Verizon's iPhone 4, took care of the antenna issue (I think).  iPhone, I understand, is a great smartphone, but Apple emphasized data, and unfortunately sacrificed the "phone"  part.  (An opinion)

It seems like the big complaint today is data.  Everybody thinks it is overpriced and inconsistent.  People want instantaneous communications, but in the end are unwilling to pay for it (it costs a lot of money to expand/upgrade network)

Customer service,to be honest is atrocious in both companies, over promising and under delivering.

Now as a personal note.  I have an ATT phone and service at my house is bad.  My neighbor has Verizon and his service is bad at his house.  My step son has US Cellular, and 5 bars consistently at my house.  My father in Southern Missouri (Out in the boonies), gets Verizon real well, but other companies are really bad.  I have a friend in Mid Missouri (still in the boonies) and he gets ATT good and Verizon is bad).

So all this rant says, Talk with your neighbors and friends around where you go.  ASk them to give you there opinion (I am sure you will get differing) then make a decision based upon where you are at, instead of company.

I forgot to mention that I am already a Verizon customer so the network isn't an issue for me, I was just wondering about the quality of the iPhone as I have heard many horror stories about it on AT&T.

To be completely honest, I use mine as a phone as little as possible.  And couldn't speak about Verizon anyway since I'm not a Verizon customer.

If you fail to find useful information, you could always go to a store and ask to try one out.  And make sure you know how long you have to return it.

Sorry, that's all I got.

No worries.

I use my current phone as a phone as little as possible as well.  My average monthly usage, and I share minutes with 3 kids, is never more than 150 minutes of talk time.  We use the phone mostly for urgent calls, everything else is messaging.  I do, however, want it to work as a phone when I need it to, so that was the reason for the question.

Verizon iphone user.  Never had experience with AT&T since I work for Vz, but have loved my iphone since getting it.  Live in NY Metro area, so haven't had any service issues.  Currently Vz still has unlimited data so I have been using my phone all day everyday for data (surfing, games, etc).

I went ahead and took the plunge and have been quite happy.  The call quality has been on par with all the other phones I have had...as an added bonus, I don't have to remember to take my iPod Touch with me everytime I go to the video store.

Thanks for all the replies.
