I am sorry to open this topic but it seems to be neccessary: In February I opened a support-ticket because I can't make a backup anymore ("JPG Error #58"). I got several tipps and finally the support found out that some other software is needed - and I am still waiting for an answer. My last running backup without problems was in January and since then....
Hm, no backup, no help from the support - any helpful idea how I can contact the support on another way than a ticket?

sounds like you have a bad headshot in your data base..  Try backing up just half of your titles .. then backup the next half until you get to the error .. this way you can whittle down your list to the bad head shot..  OR better still maybe upload one of the current new headshots (#5? ) and this will replace all your current headshots with new upload.. ..

As Terry said - the JPG error sounds like a headshot (or gallery photo).

Have you tried a custom backup - without the 'cast/crew databases with photos' option?

You could also try a backup without the gallery photos - they could also be causing the problem.

well, i don't have any gallery photos - and in the meantime i am sure that it IS a gallery photo. on the way by some additional problems, i had to restore some "lost" profiles from a complete backup - but already IN this backup there are more than one corrupt jpgs. i have reached a point where i would like to delete all headshots to solve this problem - this destroys a lot of my work, i know, but it might be the easiest way to solve this problem forever.
is there any function/tool to do this?

did youtry my suggestion - backing up without the cast/crew database?

if that works then try restoring that backup to a new database and see if that looks ok

well, backup without the cast/crew db ran good. but the restore into a new db confuses me: how can i control the quality? i had to move one profile from wishlist to owned and have seen that i lost the last two episodes of the cast. how can i find out how many other episodes (especially of manual profiles like this one, all about wrestling which i spent endless hours for) got lost?

if you had backed up your ALL titles (.dpb backup)to your PC hardrive you will be able to get back exactly what you had earlier .. If the backup restore from Invleos backup doesn't provide your needed  backups  , and your harddrive backups aren't as new as your profiler backups on invleos and the headshots from Invleos provide a better backup.. but you need the missing profiles from your Harddrive ..

what to do??
What I would do is to backup and restore your profiler from Invleos.. AND then figure out what profiles are missing that you could individually restore from your your .dpb backups on your harddrive ...

i did it like pauls42 advided: i have done a complete backup without the cast/crew database and restored the whole backup into a new database. but after the restore, in the profile i had just been about 20 actors were missing. and for me it is impossible to check about 600 (manual) profiles, each one with 26 - 52 episodes! that's my problem!
it's okay now that without the headshots the jpg error is gone - but now it is harder to fill my manual (wrestling-)profiles, as there are actors with the same name as some wrestlers and without the headshots it is more work once again.

i have several "complete" backups - but would you trust them if you have done a "complete" backup like me and the restoring shows you missing parts at first sight?
and an addition: meanwhile i think that there must be any bug in the database! why? well: i have added so many headshots, when i added them, they were not corrupt. they haven't been for a long long time and suddenly they are. and as they are part of the cast-/crew-db it seems that this only can be part of the software as i didn't change anything - any suggestions?

It might be a dumb question, but did you try a database repair? (Options -> Utilities)

@VirusPhil: You can't imagine how often I did a repair - but most times by the options nothing happened and I needed to do the "same" repair the other way: C:\Programms\DVDProfiler\dbrepair.exe (or something like this)
Another "bug" caused me several problems (and nobody finds out why): Whenever I add DVD's, I renumber all movies from A - Z - but sometimes this function changes the (former?) profile number with the data of the field "counted as" - and this way I several times "doubled" my collection

As I said it was a dumb question, but I have not read you tried it, so it was worth a try.

Edit: Won't help much but a JPG Error #58 is:
cstrJERR_SOF_NO_SOS              'Invalid JPEG file structure: missing SOS marker'

Well, but then this so called "invalid file structure" seems to be caused by dvdprofiler itself! like written before: for a long long time i didn't have any problems with the headshots, didnt "destroy" them or something like this, and suddenly the same headshots cause this error.
so i am still quite sure that there is something invalid in the program (like with my problem of changing counts and profile-no.'s)
after this trouble appeared the first time in february, the support wanted me to check my cover scans first - and i did (more than 20.000 pics), but as this was without success... i don't have the nerve and especially not the time to check the headshots also.
and with them any part of the backup-tool seems to cause errors also: i did backus including cast-/crew-database - and now if i want to restore some profiles including them, i see corrupt jpgs in the backup... lower half grey squares... altough the existing one is the same without corruption.

Some other dumb questions:

Did you install (or began to use) any software that might have changed some of your images? I can't say that I have any experience with that but I think to remember that some editing and gallery software might add unnecessary data. Something like brightness adjustments added as text to the JPG file to avoid recompressing the image.

Did you already use a JPG repair utility to scan your HD:\...\...\DVD Profiler\ subdirectories? I have never tried one myself so I can't suggest any specific software but it should at least be a fast way to find corrupt Images and unnecessary data and maybe it's possible to repair the files.

All graphic software I already had installed before! If any other software which is using jpgs (games???) is responsible for that: How could I find out?

And a few weeks ago (one of my former support-tickets) I needed to ust C:\\...\...\DVD Profiler\... to repair the database. Well, today once again I needed... wanted to add an actot to a (wrestling-)profile, and while entering it, the program wanted me to restart... Those days I feel like finding a new bug every day.... and that's disappointing :-(
