| | Posted: | | | | For any of those out there that like uniformity to their collection like I do, there is a 2-disc Special Edition DVD version of the newly released Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 floating around out there that's not well publicized. It is a Wal-Mart exclusive, and since Wal-Mart typically doesn't do sales flyers (at least not in my neck of the woods), it may go un-noticed by some. It appears to have many of the bonus features that the blu-ray combo pack does. It's available both online and in stores (it was about $3 cheaper online as of release day with free shipping). FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that.
Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it! |

I didn't realize it came out on Friday so threw away the ads without checking. @Eagle, I was totally complaining about this...I have 6 movies that are all the same and I was going to end up buying the blu combo b/c it had the most features, but didn't want to because of the size. I have been buying the combo packs from Disney 'cause that's the only way to get the special features but it frustrates me that I can't a) watch them yet and b) they are shorter than the other Disney movies. I can deal with it though, as they aren't a series, but when they're series...I really want them to match!

This question is, naturally, prompted by our last evening's viewing of Harry Potter 7 (D. H. part 1), which "stuttered/glitched/blipped" an annoying number of times during the film..... although to be fair, it didn't freeze like Iron Man 2 (which was, of course,"fixed" by a firmware update). We've had this happen several times previously, always cured by a firmware update, and yes, I've read the disclaimers on the back of BD cases....yada yada yada! OK, it's irritating when one wants to watch ones newest addition (especially as LG are not the quickest with their updates), and the BD-390 has an Ethernet connection, so every so often I let it "do its thing", and then it's OK until the next "Blockbuster" that requires an update. I, obviously, didn't get the BD version of this film, but I had a lady come into my work (Target) tonight complaining that she was on her 2nd copy of HP7 and she still can't get it to run on her Sony BD player. I told her the best thing to do would be wait a few days and check for a firmware update, as that would most likely solve her issue. She told me she just did a firmware update on the 14th...I told her that since HP hadn't been released yet then, that firmware update was for something else and now that it's been out for a few days, another firmware update should be available to correct HP7. | | | | My phpDVDprofiler collection |

| | Posted: | | | | I have a mixed attitude about Blu-ray player firmware updates. Theoretically, when advances are made, the disc designers will inform the player/software designers what is needed and the upgrades can be made available for the players to function correctly on every new disc. If this happens, I am pleased.
But, too often, we buy a new disc and the firmware to enjoy it fully has yet to catch up. Spending a few minutes to fix the firmware for a high-end new disc can be reasonable, but it often takes far too long (for me).
What I worry about (in my conspiracy mode) is that companies will stop issuing firmware updates for some model players, making them obsolete, rather than the forever good that the system is supposedly guaranteed to us... therefore just another form of DRM where we cannot control when and where we view our new discs. And it forces us to needlessly buy newer players. | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

Isn't the higher quality film preferable to a Sd version even though the case is a different size?
