Hi all, I thought I would share a very strange issue I've just encountered when trying to add a new profile for a repackaged version of the UK Warner Home Video - Errol Flynn Signature Collection boxed set. According to the back cover, the UPC is: 505189200911 but there is a symbol ' > ' instead of another digit on the far right (see the image below). When I attempt to submit the UPC as 505189200911 code, I got the error message "The entered UPC does not appear to be valid. Please check the UPC before continuing. Continue?". If I try to contribute the profile with the 505189200911 UPC, I get the error message "Unable to contribute this profile: DVD Profiler is unable to validate the UPC. Please verify the UPC and ensure you have entered the entire code." At this stage I was rather frustrated, but I wondered what would happen if I used my barcode scanner to scan the code instead of entering it manually. Well, it scanned as 505189200911 9. Is this a curious case of a company (Warner Home Video UK) accidentally printing the wrong UPC under the barcode? This boxed set of 6 films is actually a re-packaged version of an older boxed set of the same films which has the UPC: 7321900676182. The old UPC had each film in an individual case with cover art, whereas the 5051892009119 version I am about to submit has the six films split into two amaray cases that hold 3 DVDs each. The actual DVDs have exactly the same disc IDs as the individually packaged versions in the old box. Of course now I have an issue where the back cover art doesn't actually match the UPC I have used to submit the profile. So one reason I have posted this message is to demonstrate that this profile is a very strange case of the scanned UPC not matching up with the UPC that is on the actual barcode. |
