I'm in the process of selling "Lost: The Complete collection" special collector's set. I already had seasons 1-5 on BD but held out on season 6 and sprung for the big one.  For a couple of reasons I'm selling it and still have it in my collection but decided I DID want season 6 on BD and have bought it as a separate title but DVD Pro won't let me enter what is really a "new" title stating I already have it in my collection which is partially true.

Can I overide this more than irritating software issue and enter in the stand alone title? By the way, why is this "error message" even there!? Why can't the user buy and enter as many copies of a title as they wish - real stupid in my estimation.

Since this is a problem for you only until you sell the unwanted box set, if I understand correctly, perhaps a workaround would be to edit the box set profile and remove Season 6, so it will be standalone, and you can change the purchase info to reflect the one you just bought and plan to keep. When you sell the box, just delete it - just make sure the standalone copy didn't get re-added during a profile refresh.
Thanks for your support.

Sortof ... first and foremost: make a backup of your entire database, then for convenience flag all "Lost"-Profiles and make a separate backup just for them with "Backup flagged entries only"

Now you have to transform each profile you want to have doubled into a 'manual profile'. Highlight the profile goto DVD -> Change UPC and enter "m" as ´the new UPC. You can also assing a unique(!) number or let Profiler do it automatically. If you look at the profile you'll see "Manual DVD #1" or similar where the UPC was a second ago.

Now Restore the previously backed up "Lost" profiles and et voila ... they are doubled.

But the manual profiles will no longer be contributable nor will they update with 'refresh updated profiles'

DVD Profiler is a database. In a database every dataset (Profile for us) has to have a unique key. This key is the combination of UPC and Locality or Disc-ID and Locality respectively in the master-db as well as in your local DVD Profiler. Thus a Profile can't be added twice. With a manual profile you have a third way, but again, the combination Manual-number and Locality has to be unique.

And yes, locally this could have been handled differently, but Ken obviously was under the impression that a single copy of each DVD is enough for everybody.

mediadogg - your solution worked fine. I appreciate the effort Mithi but your approach seemed a little excessive by contrast. Incidentally, I thought the only "primary key" in DVD Pro was the "Collection Number." Guess I was wrong.

Yes, this situation is a rarity. I was just hoping the program wasn't so "smart" in this respect and would allow free entry of multiple copies. I suppose there are repercussions in other areas that I haven't thought through that would make this a problem.

Issue resolved. Thanks.

Indeed as, oddly enough, you can have the same collection number assigned to multiple profiles.

Really? Maybe, you do but I don't. Rather defeats the purpose of what I thought of as a unique identifier. To each his own.

I actually find it very useful to have the same number assigned to two profiles.

In the case of a box that contains several titles I assign the box the same collection number as the first title in the box. That way I can chuck out the box itself if I later decide to store the discs and artwork in binder, and I won't be left with an unassigned collection number.

Why not set the box to "none"?
