•"DVD Video, HD-DVD Video, and Blu-ray Video" discs (including MiniDVD): These discs contain movies, television shows, music performances and other professionally-produced and sold DVDs. No CDs, DVD-Audio discs, video games, Video CDs, or VHS titles will be accepted.
•“DVD Video”: These discs, included as bonus discs with CDs or video games are accepted, but only contribute the DVD Video information.
•Dual-Disc DVDs (which store both “DVD Video” and “DVD Audio” information): These can be contributed, but include “DVD Video” information only.

While you may not contribute them, per the Rules, you can profile them in your collection.  Pull down Tools, Edit Media Types...

You missed the part of the rule, which covers exactly this question:

UMD is not a MiniDVD and should not be contributed.

Ok I just wasn't sure because the disc has a full length movie just like HD DVD'S do and blu ray's and they are in disc form.
I will just add it to mine and wont contribute it.
But do you think we should consider adding it to the list of approved movie disc's?
Thanks for the help, Bob

I always enjoy how the rules say "No [...] will be accepted", while, of course, they are being accepted whenever anyone tries to submit them and don't spell out the media type in their notes. Of course, the rule does help when one tries to remove such profiles from the database again.

I don't think that UMD is an active media. They tried it and it fell on its face and joined vhs, beta and laserdisc on history's scrap heap. It does not need to be added, it is not a DVD and this is after all DVDPROFILER

Because it was an active media when it was added to Profiler. I doubt that HD DVD would have been added today if it was requested. It would be a custom media type only, just like the other defunct formats.

Because they are explicitly mentioned as "Contributable Media Type" in the Contribution Rules?
Just a wild guess.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Is there really any need for such a rude response like this?

No ruder than marcel's post which was designed to attempt to muddy the waters. When IF he had read the Rules in the fuirst place his posy was not eve necessary which clearly demonstrated his ttempt rather graphically.

Just a wild guess.

I know what the rules are, I can read. But surely one can ask why the rules are as they are... even without an immediate desire to change them.
