A subject which has been going round in my head. While certainly this won't be a total collapse i do see the possibility for the hardcore end of gaming going down the toilet in large part.

Im sure many of you can remember the days when there where many great games coming on the market. As developers could freely explore new ideas and concepts as the risk of not getting any return was low.

Now we have few big franchises as the cost of making games is through the roof. Like a new Call of Duty coming out almost every year technically, pretty much the same game as before recycled and given a different name.

Halo ODST and Reach just Halo 3 rejigged. And after the huge success of Assassins Creed 2 one year later Brotherhood comes out, with a really short single player story but most stupidly of all a multiplayer!

If you ever need prove that a single player franchise is not profitable then there you go. Not to mention the complete exploitive DLC that's really like they give you a cut version of the game then force you to pay more money to buy it.

What really kicked this off for me was seeing how much game prices for new titles has went up since the start of the year. At first i thought it was oil but the more i thought about it the more it seemed to me it was the begins of the cracks starting to show in a industry of to much risk and little reward.

I can only hope that Nintendo with there next gen console make some concession towards hardcore gaming by making franchises like Zelda and Metroid more towards that audience.

Any way what do you guys think.

For me the "Hard-Core"-gaming is over since round about 7 years. The last game that had something like an innovative gaming concept was "Far Cry". All games since then (and most games before this date too) were just the umptienth remake of Doom, Railroad Tycoon, Donkey Kong, Simon the Sorcerer, or some of the other Classic computer games. Just with improved graphics and a slightly changed story so that the customer doesn't realize he's actually playing the same game again.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Since most of the game are good graphic and easy gameplay for quite a while it isn't a surprise. I remember the day I got Final Fantasy X on my Playstation 2 (my last gaming system that I gave to my sister a long time ago) and what a deception it was... Boring go there do that RPG for braindead players that I complete in 2 days, goddam lost of money. Never played console game anymore after that, I want a challenge when I play something and not play something dumb for the dumbest players imaginable...

Now I play only sport startegy games on my computer and I'm more than happy with those I got.
When I want a challenging RPG I just restart my SNES and re-try the game I own since I don't care for good graphics.
