| Posted: | | | | While I am sorry to see anyone stop contributing. I understand if you want to stop.
But the info must come from the actual DVD... as in the opening and end credits. When I contribute I put the disc in my DVD rom and watch and copy the credits using PowerDVD. It is the way it has to be done here. And on a personal note I wouldn't have it any other way... as I prefer the profile credits (including role) to match the video's credits... as the rules state. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | If you end up comparing enough actual film credits against what imdb has, you'll see why they aren't allowed. Some info is supposed to come from the dvd cover, just don't do cast and crew if you don't want to watch the credits on the dvd, or copy imdb or wherever but don't submit that part of your audit/profile contribution. If you don't check the box it won't matter what yours says. If anyone gives you lip for partial contributions report em, as partials are fine as long as they are right and from the correct sources. |

| Posted: | | | | I agree... but of course there is an exception. If it is a new profile added to the database you don't get to choose what sections you contribute. So in those cases I would recommend contributing before getting the cast and crew from imdb or where ever. | | | Pete |

Another way I had done it was when I had an updated database on my tower PC in which I would watch the DVD (or Blu-ray) on a player next to the computer and just play/pause it from there. |

As other users wrote, you take the information from the DVD itself, or from the covers. And sure it is easy to copy information from there, and this should avoid that two contributors discuss about what is the correct data and fight to impose their own choice (in fact discussions about different interpretations of rules fill thousands of pages in this forum, specially for crew roles). But this easy way leads to a major problem : a totally inconsistent database. As actors may be credited in different ways, you cannot have a correct linking (obtain the list of all movies in which played an actor or participated a crew member) without using a very complicated tool (the CLT) which is optional and, so, not used for all profiles, and gives results that may change in the time. Ken (Invelos' owner) is aware of this problem and wrote that he is working on a new version of the program that will allow to "Eliminate the CLT as a name determination tool" and "Allow entry of properly accented and formatted names". Until this has been done, I totally understand your position about not contributing. | | | Images from movies |

| Posted: | | | | As others have noted just follow the Rules and get the info from it is prescribed. This is not IMDb as we do not pay IMDb a licensing fee for their data, which is why we say take it from the movie itself (DVD) and IMDb already exists and does not need to be cloned. They aren't in the business of making movies any more than we are . Their data is second hand at best in many cases and often far less accurate than if the film credits are used. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | Although I am (oddly) super-slow at entering credits, (I think that it's because I check and recheck every single letter), I agree that I wouldn't want that aspect of the submission rules any other way. In this age of the Internet as a commonality, we have gotten [too] comfortable with "I need it; who's done it so that I don't have to?" for many things. But the data didn't appear magically at IMDB, RT, or here at DVDP either. Someone had to originally type all of it out and add it. If people want to have data/information for their own personal use showing no one else, then who cares where it came from. But surely it is worth more effort than a copy-paste job if someone wants to share that data with others for something of this nature, particularly since the data being copied from another site might be incorrect. If you still don't agree with the reasoning, I'm sorry to hear that you will stop contributing. Otherwise, just keep it in mind and your next contributions should go more smoothly | | | If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

Some things might be harder, but with a bit practice, they also aren't too hard. Feel free to ask here in the forums if you need some advice. (Sounds perhaps a bit dumb, but this may be my not the best English) Very helpful people around here, so I bet you would get some helpful tips/hints. | | | Last edited: by VirusPil |

| Posted: | | | | And don't forget if you are in an other country, often there are US or other discs already contributed with full Cast and Crew and you may copy it over from there, telling in your contributon from which EAN or UPC you did take it from.

| Posted: | | | | Since the first of the year I've built and/or checked 695 profiles for purchases. 520 TV series, mini-series. etc. 156 films. 19 ordered. Some were on the on-line db, but most TV series had no children. Most all except cast & crew credits, I don't like to do that until I've watched them. It ruins the viewing. because US and some of these like Timeless have chapter stops and havee run down to the end to find the credits.

See it isn't so hard. I'm up at noon and go to bed at 6 AM. I can not get out of this habit, I try like today I haven't been to bed yet. Some series or films I just have to see, like MI-5, One Foot in the Grave, Pie in the Sky, Waiting for God (that's me), The Sweeney and The Fighter. US TV series that I've seen can wait.Streets of SF and Mannix and the older ones when I didn't have a TV, I'll watch first. | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. What exactly makes you this angry? I think what's happened here is that jackson4264, who has been here for a couple of years (so his profile says) has only contributed a small number of titles/updates which were all accepted. Then one has suddenly been declined, with perhaps a few less-than-helpful remarks from voters. For someone new to contributing, this can be extremely off putting, and may well deter any further contributions. It's just a guess, but that's what I reckon has put a 'bee in his bonnet'. On the whole, I've found feedback when someone has spotted a error in one of my contributions to be helpful, polite and charming. Some even PM before voting. There are however one or two voters out there with 'real issues' with their people skills. Perhaps that's the root cause of the OPs anger. |
