| | Posted: | | | | Ever since I upgrade the program is unresponsive and or very slow. Will take up to 5 minutes to add or even just change from title to title. Tried database repair and also re-installing. Any other ideas out there? |

No problems at all when the data is local only. |

But what I found when using Vista, was that there were so many cases of unexplained issues with drivers, program compatibility, etc., that my life changed dramatically when I moved to Windows 7. It became easier to trust the operating system and diagnose what might be causing a problem. And also, the number and frequency of problems was decimated. But then, I am a developer, and I was (am) always messing with device drivers, debugging code, installing programs, etc. So, of course you are correct, but I was suggesting perhaps the cheapest and easiest way to get confidence that the host environment was "OK." | | | Thanks for your support.

| | Posted: | | | | My Profiler became slower, too (Vista 64). I've changed a few things so it's hard to find out what caused the problem. Nothing takes up to five minutes of course (exept a full backup). After I click on a DVD the HD stutters for a few seconds and the profile slowly builds up. This takes up to five seconds but it was almost instant a week ago. I can live with it but maybe H-D Saint did one of these things, too and it helps him to find the source of the problem:
During this week I've changed a lot of things on my system that somehow might be related to this issue The profiler is the only program that became slower. The rest of my system is running pretty good.
1: I've turned the windows file index off and installed Headshots v6. In the meantime I've activated the index for the profiler directory again and temporary removed all Headshots. So this most likely wasn't it.
2: I've started a second collection. Not sure if this doubles the amout of data the profiler handles. I have full cast & crew in the second collection, too.
3: I've switched from Win Classic design, folder view and start menu to Vista Aero and started to use a sidebar + gadgets. But no other programm became slower. Also I've installed some Windows Live Essentials components including a picture viewer. Both of these changes lead to a lot of 'on the fly' thumbnail and preview creating actions of Vista. Maybe there is some connection to all the images the profiler needs?
4: I've turned superfetch off. Maybe the whole pofiler data was pre-loaded when I was still using it. On the other hand this would have filled my RAM up a lot. Turned Superfetch on again for a day now but the profiler didn't became faster yet. On the other hand Vista is ready for use after a reboot in half the time so most likely there is something really big not loaded by superfetch anymore. |
