Anyone else who thought of Gojira lately?

I hope it's not a reference to the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, because if it were it would be a very, very sick joke!

I got friends and (ex)in-laws living there man, I was worried sick all day yesterday!

On Sky News it said 10,000 ppl where unaccounted for in one area with a population of just 17,000. Lucky Japan is a very collective society that has helped ensure preparations for this sort of event.

Japan is probably better prepared for an earthquake than anywhere else. If this had happened elsewhere, it would have been even worse.

As Gojira was a metaphor for nuclear meltdown, unfortunatly I have thought about it. Something about that whirlpool footage really brought it to mind also.

Wishing all the best for Japan and all the people there. Also hoping my friend who just called and said the moon being too close from the axis shift, and is going to set off more horror all over, is wrong. He is a soothsayer who often is wrong and there's no easy to find huge stories from a quick web search so I'm feeling decent about it.

I've been to Japan on many occasions, and truly love the country and it's people. My heart aches for them all. Taro I really hope your friends and ex-in-laws turn out to be well as I hope that the friends I've made there are well also.

I was going to post that link the other but by the time I got to it, you had already done it.  The Globe has a follow-up set of pictures, which can be found here.  Towards the bottom, there's a series of before & after satellite images.

Just read here (German only) that two more power plants (Onagawa and Tokai) have severe cooling problems.

The Fukushima reactor (block 3) that blew up yesterday (hopefully the government isn't lying and it's really only the outer hull) is driven by Plutonium. If this gets out Japan will lose big areas for a long time.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

The Globe is at it again.  This time, it's a set of satellite images with a slider on them so you can toggle between before & after.  It can be found here

Just heard about the "Legion of the Last 50" that are still holding out at Fukushima, trying to avert the inevitable. My thoughts are with them, I'm not sure if I would have the guts to to do like they do ... Incorrect ... I'm very sure that I wouldn't have.

Block 4 is blown up too now.
The tragedy here: This was only designed to be a "warehouse", so it had no inner steel-hull

The courage of those workers - they are giving their lives for their fellow people. Such bravery is humbling.

My thoughts exactly. If they leave, it's all over. Knowing full well what it does to them and still staying in that hell hole deserves our utmost respect. I really hope, for everone's sake, they'll be able to contain the situation.
