At least for me and my mate Dave it bored us. We where struggling to understand the old west way of talking, which simply made it impossible for us to connect to the story.

How honestly this film gets so much praise is beyond me. We had to give up and walk out after an hour, and i hate having to do that. Maybe when the DVD comes out with subtitles i might appreciated it more.

Did any one else have the same problem?

Yeah this is more the point im getting at is the familiarity with it. Those of North American background will be more accustomed to it.

As im sure you guys have problems understanding all the various accents of these islands.

Well, now you understand why Hollywood remakes films from other countries.  Rather than put the viewing audience through what you went through, they just convert it to something they are familiar with.

Frankly, I almost always prefer the original to the (North) American remakes. I view the upcoming Dragon Tattoo film with deep trepidation. And for the record the only accented English that has ever given me trouble upon first listen was that of Rab C Nesbitt...but I think that had more to do with the Alchoholic slur than the Glaswegian twang.
