| Posted: | | | | Hello all
A recent NO vote on one of my contributions has caused me to doubt myself; and, therefore, I need some advice.
I have a vague recollection of a discussion ages ago regarding Visual Effects Crew that it was agreed that the following were all valid entries into this section:
Visual Effects Visual Effects Artist Digital Effects Digital Effects Artist Special Effects Special Effects Artist
So...if the credits showed the following:
Digital Effects: John Smith David Jones Elizabeth Jackson
...they should be entered as Visual Effects.
In effect I seem to remember it being said that the "Designer, Supervisor, and Director" from the rules was not exhaustive.
I have not strong feelings either way; but I would like to know so I can stop adding these if they are considered invalid entries.
Many thanks |

| Posted: | | | | I have said this before... and I know people ignore it all the time. But if I did crew work (which I refuse to do in the current situation)... Going by this rule... Quote: If someone is not credited with one of these roles (or direct translations of these roles), do not include them in the Crew section. Whether the list is exhaustive or not... I would only add what is listed in the chart only. This is also a very hard thing to vote on since most people only put in notes "Crew from credits" or something similar... so I usually don't vote on crew (at least crew only) contributions. | | | Pete |

Yes, Digital Effects as an individual credit qualifies for Visual Effects. And going by that yes... it does look like this particular one is allowed. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | I would also like to ask eevryone to not include people listed for "Special Effects" unless it's the only effects on teh film. If there's "Visual Effects" and "Special Effects" then visual is what we are trying to track. In these cases, special turns to just pyros and stunts.
Also, if tehre is a costume designer, do not include wardrobe mistress' or anything else wardrobe, it's not the same thing! |

| Posted: | | | | So what are we saying here?
If the credit includes the word Artist then it should be omitted? |

| Posted: | | | | Ok...I can see where eaglejd is coming from.
However, if we follow this logic then Make-up Effects Artist would also be an invalid entry - and I can see no sense in that. If a Make-up Artist is a valid entry; then logically a Make-up Effects Artist is also valid.
And, taking that forward any entry with Artist attached (within the sections allowed) should also be valid.
This is what I thought had been decided (vague memories of sceenshots being posted and agreed upon are coming back to me). |

Also, if tehre is a costume designer, do not include wardrobe mistress' or anything else wardrobe, it's not the same thing! I disagree that Visual Effects is all we're after. Visual and Special effects means similar, but different things today. Decades ago it likely meant the same thing, but not today. Basically today Visual means post-production and Special means in-production. Special can include pyrotechnics, but also such things as miniatures, practical effects, on-set effects such as rigging a car to fall apart when hit or other in-camera type of effects. And I have never seen a Special Effects Stunt. So to just disallow Special Effects just because there are Visual Effects credits is just wrong imo. They are today different, but both create an illusion. |

Yes Absolutely correct. It's one thing to have discussion about whether or not something should be added. Another thing entirely to have a discussion or poll to try and skirt the Rules. Effects Artists are not currently listed as approved Crew Roles. Should they be added...perhaps...though i think what we need is whole lot better definition in the direction of open credits because we are constantly watering down the data to the point of meaninglessness. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! | Posted: | | | | I've voted No, even though I think this isn't the best way to treat these credits. I think No follows the letter of the Rules, but probably not the spirit.

Also, I include in my Profiler database VHS tapes, audio DVDs, audio books (digital, cassette and CD), video games (digital, DVD and CD) and 'enhanced' CDs with video tracks on them, as well as films and TV I've bought digitally. So I'm an anarchist, deal with it. Just be thankful I don't include most of my records and CDs etc in it too; don't think I haven't been tempted... |
