| Posted: | | | | I recently added "Tropic Thunder" on blu ray to my DVD profiler and was suprised to find that when clicking Robert Downey Jr. it did not list Iron Man, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang or Natural Born Killers.
At first I thought this was a bug - but looking closer it's because his name appears twice: Robert Downey, Jr. and Robert Downey Jr. - notice the comma between Downey and Jr.
How to correct this? I could go and reassign to the "other" Robert Downey Jr thus making the 2nd Robert useless and submit them as profile changes - however there's nothing to stop someone else doing the same.
What I'd think is needed is: a) On the Tools menu an Edit Actors option (so that you don't have to edit a profile to get to this dialog). b) On the Edit Actors dialog have some way of selecting 1 or more actor names (i.e. Robert Downey, Jr. and Robert Downey Jr) and then clicking a button to link them which would then be stored.
The result of the above would be that whenever you clicked an actor on a profile to see what else they'd been in it would not only list films with the same actors name as it appeared on the current profile but also all the films where the actors name matches one of those that has been linked. |

| Posted: | | | | This is what the Credited As field in the profile cast list is for. Edit the profile and bring up the cast list, replace Robert Downey Jr. with Robert Downey, Jr., the in the space above the role labeled "Credited As" put Robert Downey Jr., if that is the onscreen credit. | | | Registered: February 10, 2002 |

So the name should always be entered as "Robert Downey, Jr." and never as "Robert Downey Jr.". The latter (thus: the comma-less variant) should only ever be put in the "credited as" field - whenever he's credited without the comma, we do retain that bit of information, but only in the "credited as" field. There's even an automatic contribution filter in play that enforces this. This particular standard, and the contribution filter, is explained here. Now, if all profiles were correctly set up according to that standard, you wouldn't have encountered the problem that you described (separate, non-linking entries for the name variants with and without the comma). Unfortunately, as you've found, not all profiles have been updated yet... |
