| Posted: | | | | Quick question: what's the original title for the third 'Ice Age' film? There used to be a time where we took the original title from a rock-solid source - the credits - but no more, which has complicated things. From the rules: Quote: The Original Title field serves two general purposes, but in both cases allows for the tracking of the original feature title. For profiles which have an alternate title displayed on the cover, use the title from the film's credits. For titles released outside their country of origin, use the original release title. There are now profiles in the database with two different original titles: 'Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs' and 'Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (without the number). To clean that up, we need to establish what the actual original title is. My own Blu-ray has 'Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs' on the cover and in the credits, but 'Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs' in the credits block. Since my Blu-ray is from a locality "outside the country of origin", I get to use the "original release title", but unfortunately the rules don't further define what that is, or where to take it from. Sites like IMDb, Wikipedia and BoxOfficeMojo all state the title without the "3", and official site www.iceagemovie.com omits the "3" as well. So which is it, and why? | | | Last edited: by T!M |

| Posted: | | | | Well, the release title in the US seems to be have been Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs without the 3. I'm just basing this on the teasers and posters, and the sites you mention, I did not actually see the movie in theaters. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

| Posted: | | | | I never knew it was called Ice Age 3 in the first place. Always knew it to be IA: DotD. | | | My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT. FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that. Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it! |

| Posted: | | | | I've voted for Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs
It's credited that way on the official website, on other movie databases on the net and more important in the CoO its title is without the 3. | | | Cor |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting TheMovieman: Quote: The actual credits say: Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs If this is the on-screen credit of the original release in the CoO this is what should be used. |

| Posted: | | | | Okay, great, that's what I'll use. Thanks! It's certainly good to have this thread to refer to, as many voters will simply go by what's in the credits, which, depending on the locality you're in, doesn't always show the correct original title. All in all, while I'm now fairly sure of the outcome, I'm still going to do a similar thread on 'Night of the Museum 2' as well, which is plagued by the same problem. There again, it'll be helpful to have a dedicated thread to refer no-voters to. Thread is here - maybe someone can confirm the on-screen title in the film's country of origin for that one, too. |
