Has anyone seen Jackie Chan's 1993 film Crime Story ? |

| | Posted: | | | | I just watched the Dragon Dynasty version, and am a bit baffled by the ending. The movie is a kidnap film, and in the second last scene, the victim is shown on a boat in Chinese waters with a Chinese navy patrol boat bearing down. So they tie the victim to an anchor and toss him overboard on the side facing away from the navy ship. There is no way that guy is going to live.
In the very next scene, that same guy gets out of a Chinese army jeep and is handed over to his wife by the Chinese cops! There was no explanation, Jackie Chan just accepts him from the Chinese, the wife gives him a hug, Jackie burns the guy's ID, and that's it. I rewound the tossing into the water bit, and it is definitely the same guy, so I have no idea what to think. Are we supposed to believe they somehow pulled this guy off the bottom of the South China Sea?
Baffled.
Otherwise, a pretty good film. |

The film is open about the changes made to the story, although such an admission is made with a flair for the sensational - the film ends with a title card apologizing to the audience for the variations from the truth, but, you see, most facts of the case remains too confidential to reveal here.' |

Agree though, Basen is an awesome research tool, but they need to sort out the DVDrama links (site is now excessif) and for me at least, a lot of the Scandinavian links never work. |

| | Posted: | | | | The DD version is excellent. Very good quality image, sound track in both original Chinese and English, remastered in 5.1, and English subs. If it weren't for the hilariously dated 90's fashions some of the characters wear in the film, you would never know it is nearly 20 years old. |

So back to my original question. I understand the ending a bit better, but it is still an odd way to end a movie. The real-life story was never resolved either, which is maybe what they were trying to portray in the movie. The victim may have been thrown overboard, or he may have escaped to an unknown destination never to be heard from again. Given the battle which resulted over his fortune, I am guessing the boat ending is more accurate. But why would they show the guy being chucked into the sea only to be immediately followed by him getting out of a Chinese army jeep?
It is almost as if they had filmed both endings, and couldn't decide on which one to use so they just threw in both of them.
