| | Posted: | | | | Finally broke down and bought a new machine and of course my old scanner is not supported in Windows 7. So, it looks like I'm in the market for a new scanner and I'm trolling for suggestions. My requirements are pretty simple. I want a flatbed and I will only be using it to scan documents. I have no use for copier fucntionality or OCR conversions. My primary concern is accurate color fidelity over as much of the spectrum as possible. Oh, and cheap is nice too. Already starting with Windows Vista and continuing with Windows 7, HP stopped supporting its existing customers, and actually advise you to buy a printer with scanner functionality as a "solution". Never mind the size or quality?
I'd like them to spend some effort on making new drivers, rather than a lot of bloated accompanying software that needs continuous updating. | | | | Hans |

But I was to cheap (  ) to buy a new one so I work with a virtual Windows 2000 system whose sole purpose it is to run the scanner. | | Posted: | | | | Now that's an interesting idea which never occured to me. I might consider running a virtual XP session so I can use my existing scanner. One advantage is that I already know the color gradations on my current scanner so I don't have to go through all that pain again.
And yeah, I've been looking at the Canon scanners as well. They have native Windows 7 64 bit drivers which is a plus. | | | | Last edited: by mdnitoil |

In terms if just a document scanner only, I have never used one, but many of them are actually more expensive than a photo scanner... though I am not entirely sure why. | | | If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

While it does work, the guy wants 40 bucks for it and a new Canon scanner will cost me around 60 to 80, depending on the model. | | Posted: | | | | If you have Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate, you can download Windows XP Mode for free at Microsoft. It's basically a virtual machine which runs Windows XP and it has USB support, so your old scanner should work.
