Just upgraded to version 3.7. When I sort by media, whether ascending or descending, it breaks up the media into two groups each of DVD and Blu-Ray, with each section sub-sorted by title. With the previous version, all titles would be sorted perfectly -- first by media, then by title -- a single group each.

I ran a database repair, and the condition still occurs. I prefer to have all my Blu-Ray discs listed first in my database, but cannot currently until this bug is fixed.

Sorting by title works fine.

I have also noticed that the media sort option has changed.  The way in which titles are sorted within the different media groupings does not seem to follow any sort of logic.  The program appears to be creating its own subgroups to sort the titles.  I have 3 different media groups, DVD, Blu-ray and Blu-ray/DVD Combo's.  This should mean 3 groups with each group sorted alphabetically by title, but its not, its many sub groups sorted by title with no apparent reason for the grouping.  Some Blu-ray titles appear at the bottom of the listing even though they should appear at the top (9 or 300 for example - and yes I tried both ascending and descending order) and the same goes for Combo titles and DVD titles.  And as the OP said, sorting by title works fine.

I've noticed in mine that a Combo Title that is marked both Blu-Ray and DVD will only show up in the DVD sort. I'm thinking that it's because DVD is the first media type option. Right now I'm working around it by using the parent/child relationship. I noticed that my Half Blood Prince had the parent as having both Blu-Ray and DVD and then a Child of DVD. I changed the parent to Blu-Ray only and kept the Child as DVD. Maybe a suggestion for the DB would be when you have a parent/child entry, or box set, and the like, that the parent be simply a container, like the box set, with no disc information, and have the children be the discs. I think this would help eliminate a lot of the sort order confusion, and make the parent/child relationship seem a bit more logical.

Another thought would be to Add Digital Copy as a media type and use it as a child entry. I haven't tried it locally, but it seems that it could be added to the online database, without too much fuss, and possibly include the field for online registration expiration, which Warner Bros seems to be the greedy studio here with expiration dates.

Having the same problem here.  Could not find any rhyme or reason as to why this is occurring and jumped on the boards hoping to find an answer after my second database repair did nothing to correct it.

Now that he is notified of it, I'm sure Ken will have a fix soon enough.

Along these lines with 3.7, I just entered INCEPTION and one of my home made reports is a color coded, by genre report that is only picking up the DVD copy when I run the report. I used personalization to uncheck the DVD box and it now shows the Blu-ray and does not pick up the DVD - which is how I want it. Did not have this issue with the previous release, 3.6 something?.

Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 combo I entered last week is suffering the same issue, I'm guessing this runs all the way through my collection with any Blu-ray/DVD combo issues.

Note also, I do not use child profiles so my reports come out in the order I want when collection numbering is involved, (I enter each movie in order of theatrical release date and this allows for more logical collection numbering that reflects this. Had a nightmare of a time with Aliens Blu-ray as I already had Alien Quadrililogy and Alien Legacy. I know I'm probably not doing something right but I got it to do what I needed to, LOL.

I just upgraded to 3.7 and am VERY annoyed by this.

I believe I may have found the "rhyme or reason" for the sub-groups, however. After upgrading, I added a few new Blu-rays to my collection. While I was at it, I also changed the "case type" field in a few of my existing Criterion Blu-rays from "HD Keep Case" (which adds the Blu-ray banner to the top of the thumbnail image) to blank (which drops the banner).

After doing that, I discovered that all of the titles I've recently modified were mis-sorted. It appears that the program is sorting first by media type, and then forming a sub-group at the bottom of the Blu-ray section for anything recently added or modified. All of my new titles were there, along with anything I'd just made changes to. I tested this now by making a minor edit to another title, and sure enough it wound up in that bottom section.

Please , Invelos, fix this soon. This is very irritating.

I'm glad I have read this topic, because now I know what is causing this sorting problem.
Tetsed it myself and the behaviour Josh Z describes also happens in my DVDP, but I hads to change tabs first(owned>ordered>owned)

I just installed the 3.7.1 update, rebooted twice. The sort is still not working or displaying properly in my reports. Combo discs are showing up as DVD and not Blu-ray in my various reports. Even unchecking the box for DVD in Edit Profile box doesn't correct it??? when I ran some of my custom reports, the reports show all Blu-ray combo editions as DVD. I'm referring here to a Blu-ray logo (keeps coming up DVD logo) used in the reports as well as the color of boxes behind titles that are color coded for DVD, BRD and HDDVD (BRD's are coming up with DVD color fill).

I think 3.7.1 may have changed some of the "condition" settings I had in my custom reports involving logos for BRD, DVD and HDDVD.  I'll have to examine my reports more carefully, I'm obviously not a power user of Profiler so it will take me some time to try and figure this out. It was difficult enough for me to make up these reports in the first place and get them right back before 3.7.0.

Tabs? Mine are now ordered left to right ALL-OWNED-ORDERED-WISH LIST. Not even sure how they were listed before but I think that's always been the order.

The 3.7.1 update did fix the sorting problem I reported in the original post in this thread.

Sort will not working correctly with any of my reports that I set up to use Media Type logos and color codings for different Genres. The only work around for me was to uncheck the DVD box in Edit Profile/General Information on all the old HDDVD Combo releases and all Blu-ray releases that had a DVD thrown in. Oh well.

The sort behavior for built-in media types (DVD, Blu-ray, and HD DVD) and the combos of these is identical between 3.6.1 and 3.7.1.  It sorts DVD then Blu-ray, then Blu-ray/DVD combos for instance.

The only thing that changed in these versions is that 3.6.1 did not consider custom media types and would intermix them.  3.7.1 will place custom media types in their own sorted groups.

Ok, Ken, it's alright, but for me (I use that type of "sort" in your example) is not working. I modified some titles (correcting the audio, some details on the video format, etc. BUT not the Title), and the modified dvds were listed at the end of my database (and I didn't modify the sorting method).
This happen only with 3.7. Once re-installed the 3.6, all is back to normal.

3.7 did have a bug, I spoke only of 3.7.1.  Have you tried that version?
