I am attempting to add this boxset which consists of 3 DVD in thinpaks without individual EANs so I need to use disc ids but Legally Blonde 2 has already got a different release of the film entered with the same disc id.  According to the back cover scan of this profile the dvd as a EAN of 5050070010848 and is also in the database under that EAN.

So is it allowed to overwrite this redundant profile with the profile for the boxset.

In this case you should be able overwrite the disc ID profile as the current disc ID profile shows an individual EAN/UPC for that movie only and not part of another box set.

All the same to me, but it is likely that the disc was included in a double feature set and the original profiler just was lazy and used existing images.  The double feature set would have required a disc ID profile.  It's probably even more likely that the original standalone profile was simply converted to disc ID and then used as a child for some multi set.

You can probably overwrite it, but only because somebody did a half-assed job to begin with.  It's still not clear if that disc ID profile is being used elsewhere.
