| | Posted: | | | | Just wanted to share about a dvd I just received. I just watched The Boys: The Sherman Brothers' Story today. Great film! If you have any fond memories for any song from Disney pretty much ever, watch this! I knew the Sherman Brothers wrote a lot of my favorite songs (Mary Poppins, songs from the Parent Trap, Jungle Book and so on...) but never knew how many, and even outside of Disney as well (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang). The documentary was created by their sons and really reveals a lot that I never knew about these two. It's amazing how long they've been together as partners and that they are still working together. Highly recommended even if documentaries are not your usual style (though if you're anti-music, you might want to skip  )! | | | | Lori |

I've been waiting for probably 6 months for this one and it met (and exceeded) my expectations. I'm not sure when I'll get to the other two, but am tempted to watch Sleeping Beauty tonight. | | | | Lori |

"Waking Sleeping Beauty" is the one I wanted to see the most. It had a single screening in my area around ten months ago, but I was busy at the time and couldn't see it. | | Posted: | | | | Ok, you persuaded me, I'm watching Waking Sleeping Beauty. I never even had a chance to see these. I live in a relatively small town and nothing like this is even advertised so unless I happen across an announcement, I don't hear about it until it hits dvd. Same thing happened with Ponyo. We're too small of a market to have showings of something that's not a blockbuster. I'll let you know what I think about it in a bit. The only one I was hesitating on was El Grupo, but I was able to get a good deal by buying all 3 at once and figured I'd end up buying it anyway to match the set. I've been enjoying most of my Disney documentaries lately, so what's one more, right? | | | | Lori |

| | Posted: | | | | Okay, watched Waking Sleeping Beauty. It's very interesting. Lots of things I didn't know. Won't spoil anything, but if you ever used one of the early VCR's, you get to see one again...a bit of a flash to the past there.
Not a huge fan of the way it was done though, it's all voice over with random images. Sometimes they don't remove the background sound, so you have competing voices going on and sometimes it's competing pictures as well (overlapping images). But a lot of the footage is stuff that the animators took themselves, privately, not really for any purpose, so it's kind of cool seeing this behind the scenes that no one thought would be seen by anyone else.
Where the Boys focused on just 2 individuals, Waking Sleeping Beauty focuses on the whole Disney animation department. And it is focused on the Disney animation department...only one very brief mention of Pixar, though they have had small features on some of their movies about their relationship with Disney.
Overall, I liked it, but not quite as much as The Boys. | | | | Lori |

I honestly don't remember too much about them...I should pick this one up and the original, but I just never think of them. | | | | Lori |

| | Posted: | | | | I watched all three of these. All of them are definitely worth a watch for anyone in my opinion. However, anyone that has any appreciation of Disney, these are worth a purchase. Btw, one of the bonus features on Walt and El Grupo is a completely unedited version of Saludos Amigos. The version that you can buy is slightly edited so that Goofy is not smoking a cigar. The only problem with the special feature is there are no chapters or anything, so if you start it and have to come back to it later, you will have to fast forward from the beginning. |
