I picked up this little beauty today and in the process of unwrapping it I noticed something SPECTACULAR!
NO FRAKING STICKER! Some of the unfortunate among you know to what I refer, for the rest some backstory.
Many years ago, back in the days of VHS & Betamax, The Government of Quebec, in their infinite wisdom, decided that the rating system that the rating system that the rest of Canada uses for home-video release was not good enough for their precious constituents, So they created their own that matched what they used for theatrical releases. To enforce this they required all retailers and distributors in the province to attach a sticker (more accurately a sticker on a sticker) to every copy of every release before it could be sold in the province. In the old day the backing remained on the cellophane wrap and the purchaser was expected to remove the part with the rating and tranfer it to the tape, and later DVD if they every expected to re-sell it at soome point in the future. Shortly after the advent of the DVD however came the advent of the silp-cover which 'slipped' over the case, cellophane and all. Now the difficult-to-remove backing part of the sticker was no longer attached to the soon-to-be-discarded plastic-wrap, but rather the slip-cover itself. I cannot tell you how many slip-covers I have damaged over the years trying to remove these God-forsaken pieces of (&%^*&%((!
Now suddenly, dawn has pierced the gloom and hope swells the breast once again.
Disney has printed the Quebec rating on the back cover along with the regular Canadian and US ones. Praise be. This is the first time I have seen the like and I can only hope that all of the other releasing companies follow suit.
Me so happyyyyyyyyy! |
