Just a little PSA here...if you're interested in picking up the 2-Disc DVD version of Iron Man 2 this week, Target will not be carrying it.  Apparently 5 versions of the movie was just too much for Target to carry.  As someone who enjoys all the bonus features (and who works at Target), I was quite saddened by this.

The versions they will be carrying are: the single-disc DVD, the single-disc Blu-ray, the 3-disc Blu-ray/DVD combo, and the exclusive 3-disc Blu-ray/DVD combo in a steelbook.  The exclusive steelbooks (which when opened up reveals the hall of armor) are limited to 30,000 and the number is printed on the top right corner of the front cover on the Blu-ray banner (the store I work at only got 13 copies, with numbers ranging from 14,000-29,000).

5 versions?!  Please elaborate!
Anyhow, I already ordered the Target exclusive via an American freind
P.S: it's not a Steelbook! it's actually a Metalpak case.

which warrants the question:
When a limited series is released with numbers to reflect the actual count of the set itself.., should that number be photo-shopped out so we don't see the actual number, So if your set is numbered
(i.e) 17,857 .. why should others who have the same set want  your number in their data???
UPC codes and numbers are one thing but limited editions should be another ..

My limited release version of  The Stunt Man (which I own)  is limited to 100,000 copies and I 'cut out' the ''number'' and replaced it with a red background and submitted this years ago, and that is the current version in the database ..

I don't have an opinion either way, but I own a couple of the Walt Disney Treasures series that contain a number (Wizard of Oz has this, too) and I believe it's that the first scan in is kept unless a better scan comes along. There really isn't any ping ponging back and forth with any that I have that have a limited edition number...Granted, none of them are super popular either.

While I don't care if it's gone or not, I'd say by photoshopping something out, you're changing the scan from something that it is not.

As I understand it, this shouldn't be an issue with this title (but I haven't jumped to Blu yet so I'm not entirely up to date on how coverart is handled).  The number is printed up in the Blu-ray banner, which I believe is not included when you submit the coverart...isn't the just the image itself submitted and the banner automatically added in?  You can see a pic of what it looks like here (the coverart is lenticular too, for added scanning trouble!).

The price difference depends on which Blu-ray version you're interested in.  If you only want the single-disc version, Target's week-long sale price is $17.99, whereas Best Buy's 2-hour doorbuster price is $19.99.  If, however, you want the Blu-ray/DVD combo pack, Best Buy has the better deal...$21.99 for the doorbuster (which is listed as a 2-disc Blu-ray/DVD combo) whereas Target is several bucks more (and is listed as a 3-disc Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo - the Target flyer shows this as $29.99, but the website shows $24.99  ).  It seems odd to me that there's 2 separate Blu-ray/DVD combo versions (not counting the much more expensive Target exclusive mentioned above), but I can verify that Target's is 3-discs as I had it in my hands over the weekend.

It does apply to this case.  For SteelBook like cases (this is a MetalPak) and those with slip covers, the Blu-ray banner should be part of the scan and are not added in by the program.

I got creative and used some basic picture skills to make a couple of my Anchor Bay LE's #666 for the scans. I figured it's a number almost anyone would grab if they happened to see it in their local store. I think that looks better than blacking, whiting or redding out the area for the numbers also.

im interested in the combo... the best buy one does have a digital copy (i looked at work today... it shows feature, blu ray extra, dvd/digital copy on the same disc)... i already saw it's actually going to be 19.99 next week over on dvd talk (my store doesn't even have the ad yet but it's on there)... so now we are talking a $15 difference for a cool case... the collector in me says yay, but the price watcher in me says awful...

Yeah, I'm saying no to the packaging and will just pick up the combo this week (and then do a price adjustment on Sunday for the $19.99 price).
