| Posted: | | | | How do we determine the common name of John S. Bartley? He is credited in Lost and the X-files and others. John S. Bartley 188/343 John Bartley 196/329 Do we count Lost as one? Or per season? Or per episode?
thanks |

| Posted: | | | | The best way would probably be to start a proper common name thread. Looking through the CLT results, it seems the majority of profiles for John S. Bartley come from various seasons of the X-Files and the majority of profiles for John Bartley come from various seasons of Lost. Since the CLT isn't set up to rule out various profiles of the same show (X-Files: The Complete First Season: Disc 1 will count as a separate title from X-Files: The Complete First Season or X-Files: The Complete First Season: Disc 2 or even a different locality that has a different title such as X-Files: Season 1 or X-Files: Season 1: Disc 1) CLT counts for actors/crew that work mostly in television have their results skewed basically beyond any kind of recognition. (this is of course in addition to the regular skewing of CLT titles because of empty original title fields or incorrect production years or what have you). Starting a common name thread listing all their credits and then confirming them would be the best way to go. Generally is seems (and has worked so in the past in a bunch of common name threads) is that one season = one credit. That seems to be the most logical way to go about it as one season is packaged as one product (although there are of course disagreements about the best way to go and what's the most logical, and I'm not arguing that, just stating that the consensus over time has generally been one season = one credit). | | | The night is calling. Or is that not allowed? |

It could, but so far there's no consensus on that. It could also be solved by just putting the show's title without any form of season/disc indicator in the original title field. Ideally, Ken would create a separate field for season/disc indicators. We definitely need this addressed: these 188 + 196 alledged "titles" for this guy are utterly ridiculous - those numbers are about 90% off... |

Can that be solved by putting 'X-Files: The Complete First Season' in the original title field? Or is that not allowed? What T!M said. To this point, it seems as if it's not allowed because no one ever does it, and without a definitive change in the rules, I'd hate to be the person that tried it out (I can imagine the no votes and the pm's now... ). A revision in the way television profiles are handled would really be the only way to sort this out. I would think that either a standard across all localities (such as The X-Files: Season 1 going into the original title field for all profiles from a specific season no matter what the actual title of the set is, or what disc the profile is for) or again, as T!M said, just the show's title in the original title field (again across all profiles, all localities, all discs etc.) would solve a bulk of the problems, but when or if that happens.... Right now, the best possible solution we have is a common name thread. They're not necessarily ideal as they can take a lot of effort to put together and they can sometimes take a big chunk of time to figure out, but they do yeild accurate and reliable results. If you want help in starting one, I can help you out, or I can do the research and put one together for you, but it probably wouldn't be until later in the weekend as I'm not going to have much time until at least Saturday afternoon. | | | The night is calling. Quoting JeroenX: Quote: The X-Files: Abduction: Mythology Collection The X-Files: Black Oil: Mythology Collection The X-Files: Essentials Oh, and no matter the controversy on how to count the seasons, certainly don't include these compilations, as they only include episodes that are also available in the season sets. There's no point in counting the same credit twice, for instance once for the season set, and once for when an episode from that same season set is included again in a compilation disc with "Essentials". | | | Last edited: by T!M |

Also agree with T!M. Unless there are new episodes in the X-Files compilation DVD's (which there isn't), delete those titles from your list because those episodes are already in the Season sets. | | | My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT. FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that. Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it! |
