Has anyone else had a problem viewing these? I have several and almost all, if not all of them, have had problems playing them. When you push play, they pixalize and freeze. If you hit the skip button (to the next scene) and then rewind to the beginning they work fine.

I've never had this problem with other dvds...even other Disney dvds, but for some reason these Treasures have at least one segment like this. I'm watching Your Host, Walt Disney right now, and each segment (on both discs) has done this, though, in others it's usually just one or two segments, not the whole thing.

Just curious...it's never been enough to return them as I can get them to work and have a feeling that since it's so prevalent, the new ones would have the same problems as well.  And in case someone asks, I've bought most of these brand new--most from the Disney Movie Club, but a few from Amazon.

have you tried these discs on another player?  Is there any hint of 'damage' to the surface whether fingerprints or scratches???

I believe the Disney products have a replacement policy that is always in place once you register the discs thru this  plan.
In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

Well, maybe one or two of the discs have marks, but the majority are just fine.  I have at least 7 or 8 of these sets, so I doubt it's related to the condition of the discs.  It's the first thing I check when I open the package is how they look.

While I've watched one or two on another player, I haven't put them all in.  At this point, most of discs are in storage for the next few weeks so I am unable to check.

So, I take it you don't have this problem?  I can see it being my player, but why does it only affect these particular discs? Why not other Disney movies?  That's why I'm trying to see if anyone else has this problem... Thanks for any help.

How old is your player?  This sounds like DRM protection to me.

Well, I did try another player with this set, and it did work fine. Why would DRM protection cause this to happen?  My dvd player is an Emerson...couple years old.

Companies include anti-copy schemes on the discs to protect against people making copies or stopping bootleggers.  As the anti-anti-copy programs becomes more sophisticated, companies change the methods they use in attempt to block the copy programs.

The goal is to still allow older DVD players to still play the movie but that's doesn't always work out that way in reality.

As a point of interest, Disney has always been the most aggressive of the majors in utilizing technology like this.  For a while it was not uncommon for Disney discs to be the most difficult to make a "backup" copy.  I have every single Treasure set and have yet to see any of the problems you describe in my players. For the record, I've got a Sony and a Philips.  As I recall, Emerson has traditionally been one of the budget players on the market and therefore more susceptible to these kinds of problems.

Huh, well, you learn something new every day! I knew about the protection, but only ran into this kind of problem with the Treasures series so it wouldn't have even occurred to me that that was the reason for the pixalization.  That's why I posted here...was trying to figure out if it was just inherent to the discs or something. I've never made back-up discs so didn't know that Disney was very active with the protection.

Well, I'm glad to know that the discs (especially since they're so expensive compared to other sets) aren't damaged.

If you're curious, you can install AnyDVD by slysoft which specializes in removing copy protections.  It can tell you which protections it has found on any given DVD.
