| Posted: | | | | Ok, so I'm entering some Blu-rays I bought today from Best Buy and a good portion are not in the system. Now, my question is, what do I put for the release date? Some are officially going to be released on October 5th while others do not have a release date at all and another just a tentative January 2011 date. Would all of these be today's date, 8/29/10? Or would for those officially announced with an 10/05/10 date be that? How about those without a release date?
Further complicating things is the fact some stores are not selling these until Tuesday while others, like my own, were selling them today. | | | Last edited: by The Movieman |

| Posted: | | | | I wouldn't think just because you were able to get them early would make the release today. I am always getting stuff days... sometimes even weeks early by ordering from online. Not as much as I used to... but it does still happen. I don't believe that would change the release dates.
Other then that... in these cases I really don't know. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Ok, so those with an official release date should remain that while the new ones (which have already been submitted I found) would then be today as there is no official release date yet?
Edit: Here's the thing, the rules state:
Use the date when the DVD was first released for sale in its specific locality.
So now I'm not sure if indeed those Lionsgate titles would have a 8/29/10 date or 10/5/10 when it will be available everywhere. Under that rule, it is when the DVD (or Blu-ray) was first release for sale and it now released through Best Buy for sale. | | | Last edited: by The Movieman |

| Posted: | | | | Is the early release date exclusive to Best Buy or did you buy them before they were supposed to be sold?
Some stores get exclusive early release dates...at the moment, Target is selling Babies, starting today, but nobody else can sell it until the end of September...if that is the case, then today would be a valid release date.
If, however, you were able to get them before they were supposed to be released, then you should use the official release date. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | I purchased them today too. IMO, we shouldn't use BB exclusive date for release date. Not everyone has a target or BB where they live. If it was a BB only special release, that would be different. But if BB only gets to sell the product 1 or 2 months early, I would vote to keep the original release date. | | | My Home Theater |

Almost anyone including those that don't have a BB near them can order them online at BB.com. | | | Last edited: by rdodolak |

Some companies release them for sale ahead of the official release date. That date shouldn't be entered. When they should become available should. At least IMHO. However, if it's that a store actually has a contract for a few days exclusivity then it's a different matter. |

| Posted: | | | | I believe the release date should be the day they are released, which is today. While they may get a bigger release sometime down the road, they are officially being sold at Best Buy right now. Best Buy isn't breaking any street dates, they have an exclusive deal with Lionsgate to be the only seller at this time.
I see it as like a limited theatrical release for movies. Just because they may or may not go wider doesn't change the date they were first shown. | | | Reviewer, HorrorTalk.com

| Posted: | | | | My Vengeance set has the release date of 03/16 (which was the Bestbuy release. It went everywhere else in June IIRC).
FWIW, Amazon has the release date for the Vengeance Trilogy as 03/16, also, even though they couldn't sell it until June. | | | Reviewer, HorrorTalk.com

| Posted: | | | | Bad Lieutenat already got approved with 8/29 as release date (since that's when I bought it). Also Best Buy's website and ad second the date. |

The first title that I can remember, that had an exclusive early release, was Space: Above and Beyond. It was released, exclusively, by Best Buy on 9/6/2005. All the other stores released it on 11/8/2005. The release date, in the main db, is 9/6/2005. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | The Boogie Nights Blu-ray was also a Best Buy exclusive released on 12/15/2009, but the wide release wasn't until 01/19/2010. The release date in the database has remained as 12/15/2009. | | | Corey |
