Not selectable from audio menu, only from special features.
Does this qualify for inclusion as audio track?
(My guess - No)

Is the selectable audio track for the whole movie or only for special scenes?

As far as I know, we have left out partial commentaries from the features. Maybe it could be added as other feature.

I'm pretty sure I've seen ones where you skip to the scene in the film, and it's an audio track that's just silent until it's part(s). True Romance had them on disc 2, so it was scrictly a special feature as there was no extra commentary track, just clips with the commentary on the bonus disc (not sure how BD is set up).
If it's an audio track over the film, even if it's silent for 99% of the time, it probably should be included as an audio track IMO. Can't recall if there's a rule.

In the case I'm thinking of it's a few scenes that are only selectable from special features. You can't play the entire feature with this track selected.

I don't agree. An almost empty audio track should not be listed in the audio section as commentary the same way that we don't list partial subtitle tracks.

I would support a program update though which could attribute both subtitles and audio with partial. Then I would agree to list them both.

At present, I think this could only be entered in Other Features.

It would make sense to me. We keep track of the disc contents, so an audio track, even if off most of the time (most aren't really off either, you just hear 2.0 film soundtrack when the special comm. isn't going), is still going to show up as an audio track on dvdshrink and powerdvd. Just cuz it's partial it doesn't exist?

I can see both sides I guess, but lean towards including them for completeness sake.

Well, the thing is that you can't select it any other way than by playing these scenes from the Special Features menu. There is no way to turn it on while watching the film.

The rules would have solved this, if it hadn't used the generic "disc menu". What disc menu exactly?

Quote:
Include all audio tracks which are selectable via one or more of the following:

    * The disc menu
    * The player's Audio Track selection button
    * Autoplay when the content is started

Good point I totally didn't think of.
Maybe if the select comm. is on the audio selection page it's O.K.?

I won't even start with discs that lock the audio vs. ones that let you change on the fly (while watching, with the audio button on the remote).

Errr, I'm so torn I can't even say which way I'm leaning now....

and didn't see post directly above, so ignore me completely.

If I see a subtitle listed in a profile (maybe of a DVD which I'd like to buy), I expect it to be a full subtitle and not a partial subtitle which only translates the signs shown in the film. Therefore we do not list partial subtitles, even so they are technically subtitle tracks.

Exactly with the same logic, I do expect a full commentary, if it is listed in a profile, and not a few minutes of commentary for a couple of scenes only.

For me it doesn't matter that it is technically a real audio track (selectable or not), when it is silent for 90% of the film. Maybe I could accept it, when it were labeled 'other' instead of 'commentary'. Even better would be of course 'partial commentary' which isn't available unfortunately.

Ok, here are my final 2 cents on the matter.

If these scenes had been deleted scenes with commentary then we wouldn't have this discussion. Right?

They are in fact scenes that are in the movie, but for all practical purposes they are separate scenes with their own audio track.

Is the video technically from the main feature track or from separate tracks? I don't know. Should it matter? In my opinion, no.
