My brother-in-law just called me to ask if I knew of a movie he vaguely remembered from his teens, and while I struck out I thought maybe someone here would know of it.

This is what he remembers:

- Probably from the late 80s or early 90s
- About an undercover cop
- The cop infiltrates some kind of drug dealer or gang or something like that
- He has to do drugs to keep his cover and gets hooked and drawn in too far
- Probably a U.S. movie

That's it. No recollection of actors or director or any more plot details?

It sounds a lot like Beyond the Law from 1992.

Charlie Sheen plays an undercover cop who infiltrates a biker gang who are into weapons and drugs. He gets in a little too deep then, and it's based on a true story.
