Pic here

I can see a waterfall behind him. So I was wondering if it would be somewhere near his lair since there is water that Ann & Jack jump into to get away from Kong.

Any ideas where this would have taken place in the film geographically?

That looks like the scene where Kong takes Ann up to his lair. However it also looks like a behind the scenes shot which means that that may not be the same angle it was actually filmed at. Which means that the waterfall may not have been visible in the finished scene, making it look different to how you remember it.

Edit: cool photo BTW - I love that film!

That's what I think. It looks like a production photo, not an actual film shot. The white stuff in the background looks like pre-cut styrofoam (or whatever they had) to me.

EDIT:
Actually, the description above the photo confirms this:

Below is Willis O’Brien’s Kong hanging out on a miniature cliff side. You can see the set above and to the left and I love the shot. Crisp, high contrast and it captures the real character of Kong as well as the loving detail Obie put into it. Not just Kong, either, but the miniature cliff. Even the rocks have a personality!
