A lot of you might already know this, but I saw a news report regarding this site. I was surprised at how much personal information can be found here: http://www.spokeo.com/

You can opt out by going to the "privacy" settings located on the lower right and following the directions.

That might be because the search is limited to the USA.

When I searched for my "trial"-E-Mail adress all the results came from registrations on US- servers only
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Found a bit more of me than I feel they should've, but it's filled with errors.

Mid 30's = Late 30's

Occupation:  Professional/Technical = None

Married = not married (might as well be, but not)

3 residents at house, inclouding my mother. My mom died in 1993.

Condominium = House

Still, more than I expected and a bit un-nerving. I'm so tempted to give them $5 just to see what else they have of mine they shouldn't. Time to change some passwords...

The issue with sites like that one (I've been there a few times) is that all information they gather is public record. As such, there are probably 100 other sites just like it.

It's like that e-mail that used to be sent around: "OMG! Type your phone number into Google and it not only tells who you are but draws a map straight to your house for criminals! Beware!" Well of course it does. The phone book has your name, phone number, and address. People don't need Google Maps to find you.

A number of people panic too easily these days about non-private information being easily accessible and visible by the public because they either never know or never understood how to access that information themselves. I can understand not wanting it ot be made visible to everyone on the planet, but if it's someone on the other side of the world, the only way that they could find your info is by your telling them enough to look it up in the first place. Locally, just go to your courthouse and it's all there made available to anyone who wants it.

The info they have on me is hit and miss.  For example, they say I don't have kids, but have young grandchildren.  LOL

Let's see ... amusing what they get wrong about me.

Address in Louisville on S. 5th St. (no number, and I lived there 4 years ago)
Late 20's (Mid 30's)
African-American (actually Caucasian)
Education: Some College (I have 2 Masters degrees ... that's some, right?)

Oooh, looking up my mom is even more amusing.

Address in E-town (haven't lived there since '97) - and says she's lived there for 4 years (we lived there for less than 1)
Late 60's (Mid 60's)
Education: High School (she has a BA)

Don't think we have anything to worry about.

Just off-topic, but why do you post funny pics on www.musicprofiler.com, www.invellos.com, (with "ll") ...?!
All those look as the Invelos website. Ken is doing all for being found in net.

They did not find anything on me till I searched by my email. However the fact that they wanted me to pay for the full results, I quickly decided that the Google search (that other have mentioned) that I do once a month to check my info Justin Case, (I went to high school with him.    ) as I'm a bit Paranoid of what is out there on me.

Seems like the same sort of the thing that charge you for a look at your Credit Report when you get it them all free every year.

I may be a bit  Paranoid, but since I am dyslexic I'm always worried I'm out to get someone!
