I've heard that an American version of these Swedish movies are going to be made.  Looking at the male lead in the Swedish version (Michael Nyqvist), I can't help but think how he and the actor Jeffrey Nordling (Once and Again, 24, Desperate Housewives), look alike.  I did a visual comparison and he looks just like Nyqvist!  Anywho, he would be a good choice for the the American version if Hollywood wants the lead roles to look like the Swedish verision.  Thoughts?  Who should be Lisbeth Salander?  Noomi Rapace doesn't want to do another 3 of the same movies, so she's out.
My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT.
FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that.
Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it!

I too think that after Rapace, any actress will probably look wishy-washy. I rarely saw a movie actress that fits so well with the girl in the book. Noomi is Lisbeth.

Well personally I see a lot of room for improvements, so I say: Bring on the remakes!

Plus it is being remade by David Fincher, which is an upgrade by itself.

Agreed,
I can already see the studiobosses thinking how they could fit in Angelina Jolie here ...
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Actually, the last rumor I saw a few weeks ago was Carey Mulligan (who was nominated for Best Actress last year for "An Education").

From her looks only she so does not fit into that role, and yes David Fincher is a genius but still, it will be a fail, the film has a certain scandinavian atmosphere which cannot be transferred to an american movie.
Same with "let the right one in", the remake will be a failure too.

I am in the same boat. I don't mind remakes at all.

Eh, I think Fincher can pull it off.

I also loved Let the Right One In...  but I did like the trailer for Let Me In and does show promise.

My problems with remakes are not to do with it being an insult to the original. The problem for me is by studios investing large amounts of money into remaking there biggest films they are becoming more and more likely not to invest in fresh and original ideas.

I want Hollywood of the 70's where innovation and independence was the way forward. Not franchises and remakes.

But remake changes exactly nothing about the original. Nothing.

And I don't understand why people blame the studios. It's a business, if people didn't go see the remakes, the studios will either stop making them or go out of business. It's the public to blame if you don't like remakes, not the studios.

Ironically, you get fresh and original ideas, too, because of remakes. I would bet that Slither has the success of Dawn of the Dead (remake) to thank for getting made, and Land of the Dead probably wouldn't have gotten as far as it did without the Dawn remake.

Hollywood doesn't care what you want, they only care about money. And if remakes and franchises continue to make money, how can you honestly blame them? Blame your friends for seeing the films, not the people who are making them.

I never said i agreed with the whole remake being an insult to the original thing. I was merely using that as an example of what most ppl who where fans of the original thought of remake of said film.

And im not about to deny ether that some films have been inspired by remakes nor im i about to deny they are very few and none of which are genre or industry changing.

I very well aware of Hollywood being a business and im well aware they don't care what some guy in Scotland thinks. That still is not going to stop me expressing my wishes for Hollywood to return to more innovation as a way forward.

Oh, they don't care what I think, either.

I would like Hollywood to be more innovative, too, but they never will be until the dollar forces them too.

(And, in all honestly, Hollywood has never really been that innovative. The good stuff usually comes from either smaller, independent studios or a director fighting the system.)
