DVD & Blu-ray scan sizes? |

If you add an image that is larger than maximum dimensions that the database allows (500x700 pixels per side... spines should not be included in scan of either side), it automatically resizes the image down to fit those boundaries. | | | If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

In-short tech specs: As far as the online database goes, the maximum dimensions are 500W x 700H and 195KB. If you contribute an image that is larger than any of these, it is automatically adjusted to fit within the limits. (That 500x700 size would match a typical DVD trapsheet front/back area scanned at 100DPI - Blu is a bit shorter tho.) For local, use I'm not sure that there is any specific limit, tho presumably too big will make itself known by bogging down your system as it scales each image within the Profiler displays. Some here have said they store their scans at 800DPI, personally I scale down to 150DPI for local - fits nicely on a 1600x1200 screen and is sufficiently legible. Don't forget the compression setting within Profiler too if you use it's editor... (within its image editor: File > Adjust Compression) by default it's set to JPEG quality of 75, which I find far too low. 95 IMO retains a much better image with still enough compression to save a reasonable amount of space. Scanning methods are many, see DoubleDown's link and other similar threads for scanning advise. |
