When you're in a profile, you can click an actor or crew member and a pop-up shows all the profiles he or she has participated in. Is there a way to filter or limit the profiles shown in that window to only those that you actually own (so excluding your Ordered and Wishlist profiles)?

The reason is quite simple. It happens we see an actor we like or notice we like a certain director. So when using those windows, it's easy to quickly spot other movies they participated in and chose which one to watch next from there. However, since all profiles are included and not only those we own, there's still some manual searching needed.

Is there such an option somewhere?

Sadly not.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Not through Profiler, but there is a way using the Database Query Plugin.

The downside is that you have to load all cast and crew data first which can take a while; the larger your overall Owned/Ordered/Wishlist/Custom collection combined, the longer it will take. So, it would be best to look up many people at once to save the reload every time that you close and reopen Profiler.

  • Start Database Query Plugin.
  • Tick the "Load cast/crew data" checkbox and click "Begin".
  • After data has loaded, click "Filter" at the top of the new window (the white funnel image).
  • Under the "General" tab, tick the "Owned" checkbox only.
  • Choose the media types that you want to use and also decide how you want to handle boxed sets in the options below that.
  • Click "OK".
  • Now go to the "Cast" (or "Crew") side tab.
  • In the "Field:" dropdown, select "Name".
  • For the "Query:" dropdown, select "Person Search".
  • In the "Person" textbox type the name of the person to search for exactly as it is listed in the database.
  • Choose whichever "Person Type" you want in the dropdown.
  • Click "Run Query".

  • NOTE: One oddity is that the plugin registers the birthyear (if present in your database) as part of the name, so if no results come up at all for a name that you know is in the database ("No data selected."), either look back at the profile for the person's birthyear...

    ... or...

  • In the "Field:" dropdown, select "Name".
  • For the "Query:" dropdown, select "<custom query>".
  • Next, Find all profiles were: "Full Name" "Contains" and type the full name in the textbox.
  • "Run Query"

  • This will list all with that name, and if they have a birth year it will be listed next to it in the "Name" field. This is what you have to type into the previous search (eg:  Peter Graves (1926))
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

He who MUST get the last word in on a pointless, endless argument doesn't win. It makes him the bigger jerk.

Thank you for your clear and helpful explanation, Blair. I hadn't thought of going that way but it would indeed fit my needs, if only a bit cumbersome. I'll give it a try and thanks also for posting the feature request!
