Ultimate Matrix DVD: 2004 vs 2009 cases: Which would you choose? |

| | Posted: | | | | I am planning to purchase the Ultimate Matrix Collection on DVD (no, not HD or Blu-ray; I haven't joined the HD revolution yet). My understanding is that there is no difference between the original 2004 release and the re-release in 2009 (same discs) except for the cases they are kept in. I'm speaking only of the standard editions and not any of the limited edition versions.
The 2004 version is a slip case holding Digipaks containing the DVD's.
The 2009 version is a 10-DVD keep case with a slip cover.
Since I haven't seen either opened in person, I am torn on which is the better choice aesthetically and in durability. Can anyone give me suggestions and reasons? | | | If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

| | Posted: | | | | I can't speak for the durabilty, but the old one looks way better to me. It's got some personality, not just a run of the mill case.
Go Blu though, the first film is amazing on blu-ray (I really don't like the sequels so old dvds are fine for them). |

The digipaks are not uniformly folded. In other words some are not squared on the end.
Also I am a little concerned about the long term durability of digipaks in general. Due to the plastic being glued to the paper I worry about them coming off eventually.
Personally I prefer the keep case design. |

| | Posted: | | | | Never have seen the keep case design. Just did a short web search and also didn't find a pic. Just know the normal Triologie version in Keep Case. I own the 2004 version. For durability it is hard to say. The Digipak looks very fast used. But the plastics of a keep case can also get broken very fast. Depends on the quality. So here no special suggestion from me. But I personnally prefer the digipak a Keep Case looks to "normal" imho.  |

| | Posted: | | | | Well, I ended up buying the 2004 version. For some reason I was expecting the digipaks to be smaller which was why I was concerned about durability.
I ordered it new and still sealed in the original wrapping.
Go figure when I open the discs up, the case for "The Matrix", the movie that I will continue to watch far more often than the rest, has one tiny prong missing in the holder so the disc won't snap into place.
