I recently made a contribution of a cover scan of the Blu-ray "Knowing" that I purchased brand new at the store that did not come in a slip cover.  Appearantly there was another release that came in a slip cover.  I know the rules for cover scans say that it needs to be of the slip cover if that is how it originally came.  Well, what if that's not how it originally came when I bought it?  Mine did not come in a slip cover.  I think that some of the comments on my contribution were...how shall I say it...rude.
If people don't agree with the contribution, that's fine. But I don't think they should put other people down for trying.  If they think it needs to be of the slip cover (even though I didn't get one) that's totally fine, just say so without all the "read the rules" stuff.  I got the impression from some of the comments that they felt it was some big waste of their time to even look at it, if so, then maybe they shouldn't.  This was only my second contribution, and I would enjoy contributing more. I think my cover scans are nicer than some I've gotten from the database and would like to share them.  So, I guess all I'm saying is...politeness counts!
Thanks for listening

It was originally released with a slip cover thus that's how it needs to be in the database. You are free to keep the scans you made of the inner cover local.

As for the comments, there's a limited amount of space so it may come off as rude but we need to keep it concise and sometimes people just type something simple and don't mean to be rude, but that's the nature of message boards, unfortunately.

Edited to say that we all make mistakes. Heck, my first contribution was to add cast and crew to a box set so it happens, lol.

Check out this thread.

I'm hosting scans for re-release covers on my site. In the first post, you'll see how to contribute your scans.

Hello Jimmy,

I also voted on your contribution and I hope my reply didn't offend you. I always try to explain my reasons for declining a contribution in a clear yet gentle way.

I can understand your confusion, though. I had the same thing with the US release of Terminator Salvation BD. I preordered at Amazon some month and a half before release date and mine came without a slipcover. It would be logical to assume there wasn't one so imagine my surprise when I saw contributions with slipcovers.

I think in general, it's safe to assume that if there is a contribution with a slipcover, that that is the original first release. In general, slipcover releases are for first press and disappear lateron. I've personally never seen an original release that came without a slipcover and got one lateron.

So in general, when I don't have slipcover and see a contribution with a slipcover, I tend to accept the contribution with slip cover.

What I usually do is keep such scans in my local database only and lock that part of the profile. It's also a nice suggestion to add it to the thread Chris mentioned. In fact, I should submit my re-release scans as well

Hope I could explain my thoughts clearly enough

Everyone should always contribute any different scans to this site, and thanks again for hosting them cvermeylen.
Although if the inner cover is nearly identical to the slip, it's not as big a deal as re-releases with completely different art.

Unfortunately there are some users who seem to be incapable of being polite with "no" votes. All I can say is I hope you use your red arrow on those you feel deserve one and don't take them personally.
There is no way of telling if a DVD ever came with a slipcover when you buy the one without in a shop and the slipcover checkbox is only a small tickbox and easily missed when you're concentrating on cover scans and not the rest of the profile. People should take that into account when writing their vote reasons.
