I came across an actor named Chris Gray in The Rainmaker.

According to IMDB he is also credited as Christopher Gray in the movie The Client.

I looked up both and the CLT looks like it bears this out.

So we have a tie.

Confirmed same person here.

FYI there are other actors/possibly crew that also goes by the name of Christopher Gray.

I'd go with the more recent one.

Call me crazy, but I'd go with the one that doesn't force a BY situation with any other actor.  If that's not a consideration, then flip a coin, it'll change soon enough.

Wouldn't number of profiles be used in a situation like this to break a tie?

I don't honestly know as I've never run into it (and haven't thought of problems that could cause), so I'm just asking.

I'd say wait for him to make another movie, but considering those movies are over a decade old, not sure what the chances of a new appearance by the actor are going to be anytime soon.

Personally, I'd probably go with profiles in the system to compliment the titles.

I'd go for this one as well. Chances are higher the results will flip in this direction.

Even if the last film the actor was in was made in 1997 (and the one before that in 1995)?

That doesn't give me a lot of hope that an actual common name will be reached either way for some time, if ever (although it could happen tomorrow I suppose).

What would be the downside to counting the profiles to go along with the titles.

If The Rainmaker has 35 separate profiles in the system, and The Client has 85, wouldn't that actually make whatever name was used in The Client the common name as there's more profiles for that film?

Again, I honestly don't know and am not trying to be one of those guys that argues in the opposite direction just for the sake of it, I'm just honestly wondering.

Exactly how did you apply CLT?

There are 11 titles for Chris Gray and 100 titles for Christopher Gray. Admittedly, the latter may comprise several different people, but how did you sort them out?

If you check IMDb this Chris Gray (#1 of at least 15) there are only the two Grisham films listed.  So i think his conclusion is those are the only two films that apply to this Chris Gray.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

Assuming imdb is correct and complete, and that one of the CLT results has not been copied from imdb?

But well, for actors, Chris appears to have less overlap with others than Christopher. Not a good argument, and locally I would copy the BY to avoid future conflicts.

That is, indeed, the one and only impartial tie-breaker there is in such situations.
