| | Posted: | | | | Since we recently had a user trying to enter Disney's A Christmas carol under a bogus UPC, the title has been announced for release sometime in November on both DVD and BD, the single Disc BD will be 39.99 and the 4-Disc Combo pack is showing an SRP of $49,99. And we have some tentative details from retail sources on the specs for Disney's CG-animated A Christmas Carol, which we first mentioned yesterday is due to arrive in stores on 11/16. The big news is there WILL be a Blu-ray 3D version. To be specific, there will be three versions in all - a regular 1-disc DVD (SRP $29.99), a 1-disc Blu-ray (SRP $39.99) and an exclusive 4-disc Blu-ray Combo Pack (SRP $49.99). The DVD includes deleted scenes and 2 featurettes (Capturing A Christmas Carol and On Set with Sammi). The 1-disc Blu-ray adds to this a Digital Advent Calendar and a featurette called Behind the Carol: The Full Motion Capture Experience. The 4-disc Blu-ray Combo Pack will include the regular Blu-ray, the DVD and a Digital Copy disc, along with an exclusive Blu-ray 3D disc that contains a 3D version of the film along with a bonus 3D short film called Mr. Scrooge's Wild Ride. Audio will be Dolby Digital 5.1 on DVD and DTS-HD 5.1 on the Blu-rays. |

Mind you, there isn't a single retailer in the US that sells at SRP. FYE still does if you have one in your mall. Stuff is always on and off sale prices, but if not on sale, it's full MSRP. |

| | Posted: | | | | The SRP is not that high. There's a Blu-ray, a DVD, a (more or less useless) digital copy, and a second Blu-ray disc with a 3D version (real 3D).
Blu-ray's are cheaper than DVDs were during the first years (adjusted for inflation). And of course the product is ten times better. Laserdiscs were even more expensive ($30-40 in 80-90's dollars, twice that much for special editions) and VHS were $80 in the early 80's when they were more or less targeted for rental only.
May not be the best comparison, since the market is very different, but you can't expect prices to keep going down in actual dollars, and at the same time having general inflation. Considering the contents of the 4-disc set, the price is not high at all. At least not if anyone's going to make any money from it. | | |  |
