Okay, I'm going to muddle this up in the explanation, but I'll try my best.

The Vengeance Trilogy consists of 3 movies and 8 DVDs (5 DVDs are special features). The movies are OldBoy, Lady Vengeance and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. The 3 movies are in digipacks with no UPC, so it's disc ID only.

I created child profiles for Lady Vengeance and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance no problem, and have submitted them as they are not in the database so far. Now comes the problem.

OldBoy (Disc 1 at least) is already in the database. It looks to be the same DVD that's disc one of the OldBoy LE Tin, which I also have. So I can't add it manually because the disc ID is already in the database and it looks as if I move it from the OldBoy LE Tin and put it in the Vengeance Trilogy set, it won't be in the Tin set. (IE one or the other).

Is it possible to have one child in two parents? If so, how would I accomplish this?

If both entries are in your local database, no this is not possible.  However you can add a copy by title.  Just add by title and uncheck Download from Invelos.  Then use Copy/Paste to copy the information to the new entry and place it in the other box set.

Okay, cool, thanks!

So, as far as submission goes, can it be submitted as a child of of the Vengeance Set?

Assuming everything is the same aside from the cover (which differs), will the database accept a submission with no changes?

Or can I change the title when submitting (So instead of it saying OldBoy Disc 1 it would say Vengeance Trilogy: OldBoy Disc 1).

Or don't submit at all?

Attach your existing disc ID profile to the new boxset and submit that. I wouldn't change any data as that will affect those who own the old boxset.
Then just link it back to your old boxset once you're done.

Edit: sorry, I'm talking about submitting the parent profile here. Ken (the all-knowing zombie) is of course right, there's no need to do anything to the child profile.

Of course any data that is shared by both boxsets (cast, crew etc.) can be updated.

If I understand yo correctly, Alien. Two Boxsets contain the same title. The operative then would be the Original Boxset gets the child relative to the Online. Not ideal, and sounds like something that somehow should be addressed but...
ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!!

The child profile doesn't know what it's parent is, so if the parent is the only difference, there's no need to submit the child.

Okay, I'll keep it local. The Vengeance Set will have two of the three online, though, so there's that.

Thanks all!

Seems to go nicely with the whole "Alien Redrum" thing too.

This isn't how it works.  Because Box Set Contents are saved with the parent profile, a child profile can belong to multiple box sets.  Where this can't happen is in your local db.

Wait, that actually confused me.

I created the profile per Ken's instructions and added it as a child. Should I submit it?

(By 'submit it' I mean put the original child from the Tin to the Vengeance Set and submit it as a child of the Vengeance set, too, so the original scans will remain the same online as I created new scans for my local).

Let me see if I can illustrate this better...

In the following fake example, all discs are exactly the same.

There are the following Star Wars DVDs:  Star Wars (SW4), Empire (SW5), Jedi (SW6), Phantom Menace (SW1), Attack of the Clones (SW2) & Revenge of the Sith (SW3).

The Star Wars Trilogy is released containing SW4, SW5 & SW6.  Those profiles can be added to the parent profile under Box Set Contents.

The Prequel Collection is released containing SW1, SW2 & SW3.  Those profiles can be added to the parent profile under Box Set Contents.

The Complete Star Wars Saga is released containing SW1, SW2, SW3, SW4, SW5 & SW6.  Those profiles, even though they are already attached to other box sets, can be added to the parent profile under Box Set Contents.  You don't have to contribute the child profiles, because they already exist, but you have to contribute the parent so that the association is made in the main db.

So no, you would not contribute the child profile because, as Ken said, the child has no idea who it's parent is...sounds kinda sad when you say it like that...the Parent, however, always knows who it's child is so it is the parent profile that you need to submit.

OHHHHHHH!

Okay, so I think I got it. I added the child to my Vengeance set and manipulated it (the child), so all I have to do is resubmit the *box* set. Not the children. The parent.

It won't actually submit the changes I made to the child, it will just note that the children attached to that parent in the DB.

Is that right?
