Why do we have to have blank entries in title that have multiple films in.

Example.

I have Back to the future trilogy, this has 3 disc with each film per disc. (this also applies to Alien Legacy: 20th Anniversary Edition)

But I have no info in Disc, A/V, Subtitles, Cast & Crew.

Now the only way I can get them in there is put them in myself, but NOT submit them online. WHY???

If this was a TV series it would be submitted with an episode divider.

Surely DVDs like this should be treated the same.

Its a pain in the arse trying to find an artist when the film he is in, in your collection but because of a stupid rule stops me locating it.

I feel we should treat discs like this as a TV series, or likewise remove all data from TV series information.

Checking the rules it states

"Do not include any Disc IDs on the main profile - these are listed on each of the individual profiles"

The trouble is that these one have one box, and not several boxes

These should have child profiles, go to one of these profiles now go to Tool Bar> Online> Refresh DVD from Invelos> Check for Child Profiles. if child's are available they should be downloaded

The reason is that these are collections of films, they are box sets. Information about aspect ratio, audio tracks etc. is not necessarily the same for all the films in a collection, so we leave that information blank.

For TV series a compromise was agreed upon because some users like to have all cast and crew information in the parent profile, while others prefer to have this information divided amongst the children profiles. So for TV series both options are acceptable.

I could be wrong here... but what I think he is saying is that he feels that movie boxsets should be treated the same way as TV Series boxsets. All info in parent too... because there is people out there that don't want the child profiles. No diffrent then there is people out there that don't want child profiles for TV Series.

But I imagine not as many for movies sets as there is for TV sets.

Well it does mean I can boast about having more DVDs

Reason why there is no info is because they all have different years and running times , as well as different crew and casts per show.
The idea of the Box set is to Add the individual Children underneath the parent and then in each of the children you can create and add all that One show information including the same scans as the Parent.
Since Profiler 3.4 the downloaded Parent will prompt and ask you if you want to add the individual children as well., therefore it saves you the burden of all this extra work.

Yep thats what I more or less mean.

What I would suggest is leave all the info blank, except cast, with dividers for each film, possible include disc id (if it doesn't affect a title on its own) but wouldn't a boxed set version of Back to the Future, differ from a stand alone version?

Well see.. I am a person that likes to have the child profiles. So I personally wouldn't want the cast and crew in both the parent and child profiles. As that inflates the amount of titles for the cast and crew. For example if I have the Back to the future set (and yes... I do).  When I click on Micheal J. Fox's name I don't want to see it say 4 listings for back to the future (3 movies + boxset) I want it to say what I can actually see him in.... just the 3 movies.

BTW... you can fix the count by going into the personalize section for each movie. There  you can control how it is numbered as well as adjust it to make the count right.

You can change the disc count for each disc in the box-set to get a more accurate count. Just right click on a title, select personalize and you can change the Collection number (if, like me, you don't want numbers on the children), and the disccount.

Hope this helps,

Paul

..and when I want to add up all the minutes of  my movies to see what I could watch in a '90 plus  day marathon'  I dont want to 'inflate' the count by ( as in the BTTF case) an extra 350 minutes ..

I guess I just delete the collection number from the profile then?

Well I checked the disc ID for Guest House Paradiso, and the film which is included in "The Big Bottom Box", and the disc IDs are different, but if the contents are different I haven't yet looked.

So what if the title that is included in a box set is different from the stand alone film.  sure by copying the stand alone profile in tho the boxset would be breaking the rules by not submitting correct data.

You create a new profile by disc ID. By putting the disc in your DVD/Blu-ray Rom drive.

Well I have added the discs to the "Boxset", it now has not only added over 20 extra DVD to my collection, plus over days of run time.

So when I run the collection database enquiry it gives me incorrect information

So now I either live with incorrect data, remove the child profiles (what if you have kids that will see adalt titles), remove the run time and DVD number from the added "child profiles".

Either way i'm peed off.

Another problem I  have encountered is some discrepancies.

In the DVD boxset George A. Romero's Trilogy of the Dead the run time is 335 mins, but the added run time from the three films is 332 mins.

So by adding original profiles as a boxset is wrong as you are potentially subitting incorrect data and a breach of the rules.

Now while it may only be 2 minutes is still wrong, and being a technical librarian in the avaition industry I hate having discrepancies.

How many other boxes sets have wrong or incomplete data.
