| Posted: | | | | I've recently had a couple of NO votes regarding BBFC ratings for Region 2 profiles.
The first NO vote stated I should use the 'full length rating' and the most recent simply stated I'd used the wrong one and promptly submitted their own (which is damned rude IMO).
So here's an example of why this confusion has arised.
First Wives Club shows this on bbfc:
Consumer Advice: Contains mild sex references, violence and language Language Occasional, mild Sex/Nudity Some mild references Violence Once, comic, mild Other None
Initially when this situation arose I was using the shorter version after Consumer Advice; but after getting a no vote & PM stating I should use the longer version which would appear on the case I changed to using the longer version.
Now I'm totally confused and bordering on not bothering with ratings at all unless their on the box.
So...which bit should be used??
Thanks in advance. |

| Posted: | | | | Since they practically say the same thing, I'd go with the one that's easiest (shortest) to enter, meaning this: Mild Sex References, Violence and Language | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

There was no rating on the case...which is why I went to the BBFC website; and, as in my first post, it listed both a long and short version of the rating details. |

| Posted: | | | | You are absolutely correct, I misunderstood In my opinion, "Mild sex references, violence and language" should be used. for two reasons. 1. It says the exact same thing as the long version and 2. It's easier to read than the long list. | | | The colour of her eyes, were the colour of insanity |

| Posted: | | | | Whilst I can understand your reasoning reybr, I personally disagree.
Whilst very similar, the shorter version omits one word which can make a difference to some people. In the violence section in the table version it includes "comic". That implies that the violence present isn't actually set to hurt people per se, but for the humour aspect for the viewers. Whilst it may not matter to all, to some parents with children, they might not allow their children to view films with "ordinary" violence but would allow comic violence. |

Better to have what some people would consider too much information, than what some would consider not enough. |

That's the format our rating details field is equipped to handle, and that's the official format the BBFC is using nowadays - the old "table style" format has been abandoned long ago, and often contains information (like genre or themes) that really isn't part of the actual rating details. Just the fact that this would lead us to enter something like "Other: None" into the field should be a big enough hint. So yeah, it's definitely "Mild Sex References, Violence and Language". | | | Last edited: by T!M |
