I flagged some profiles and did a backup of the flagged profiles.

I created a new database to restore the profiles to.

For some reason I cannot restore my backup. I've tried restoring the entire backup as well as individual profiles. I am receiving at least two different errors. I cannot reproduce anything that gives me the same error all the time. Here are the 2 I keep getting:

I have tried a few time to re-do the back up file yet each time I try to restore it I cannot. Even if I try to restore my main backup it doesn't work. I don't think it's the backup I think it has something to do with the new database but I'm really not sure.

When DVDP works it's great. When it doesn't you need to be a freggin programmer to figure out why...  Any help would be appreciated.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
DVDP has been added to both firewall and virus software but in addition I also shut both down and tried it with the same result.

And now I can't even open DVDP again without a repair and a restart... AND IT IS AN EMPTY DATABASE!

Same error I reported yesterday. Ken's solution was to exclude DVDP from my virus scanner. Well it's not only excluded but it wasn't even on when I tried this time.

Frustrating to say the least...

Wish I could help you Rick, but I'm not a "programmer" either!

An access denied error is usually either a permissions error, or a virus scanner holding on to the file.  Try excluding the databases directory from your virus scanner.

Ken, I've already done that. Yesterday when you suggested it.

I received this error when the virus program was shut down!

And what about the other issues? When I finally get the db open I can't add anything to it. I have no idea what a "closed dataset" is.

The issues are likely one and the same.  The second error you report indicates the database was not actually opened.

Try creating a new database in a completely different directory.

OK, using a location other than the default one worked. Thank you.

Any ideas as to why I can't create a new db in the default directory? Is that something you shouldn't do as it creates conflicts?!? If that is the case why does the program default to that location? If that's isn't the case there is still an issue with my installation and I've just used a "work around" to avoid it.

The default directory creates databases under the My Documents folder, which is a best practice and in normal installations will work correctly.  The fact that you're having an error with a database in that directory likely indicates there is something amiss with your permissions set in the My Documents folder, or the existence of a more general hard drive issue.
