I take it, the host PC must always be on? It streams the DB right? I'm presuming data is locally stored (i.e - which titles/images) though? |

What is the purpose of Remote database access if the main computer has to be running DVD Profiler in order for it to work?. That the computer holding the databases needs to be running makes sense but that profiler needs to be running somehow doesn't? It's a step forward from copying the databases ofc  but profiler isn't always running on the "main" computer. I would be more then willing to buy a "real" network version of profiler. Are there any plans in that regard? | | |

I can backup my database to my NAS, but I clearly need to make that backup into my MAIN database. how do I set that? The backup file has a different extension. And Do I have to enable sharing on both computers to use the database off the NAS, or is the sharing option even needed in this case?
I've tried sharing it locally off one of my computers but when I try to enter the host name in the other computer it won't accept it, and the help files don't evenmention sharing or provide any information on it (rather disappointing). I know for certain that the computers can "see" each other on the network as I have many other things networked just fine. The lack of instructions here has my stymied.
Thoughts? Help?

| | Posted: | | | | Hi Tamra, if you would like to share the database that you have stored on the NAS, you can open it from any PC that has access to the NAS and has DVD Profiler installed. Also, as stated above, you can't have concurrent connections to the DB , so you need to close other running instances of DVD Profiler first. In DVD Profiler just select 'File' from the menu and then 'Open Database' and 'browse' to the folder that contains your DB (Not your backup file!) on your NAS. If your DB is still saved locally on the PC on which you entered all of your DVD's first, you need to move/copy the DB to your NAS first. The other option that was actually implemented in V3.6 is that you can run DVD Profiler on a host PC and other PCs on your network access that running instance of DVD Profiler. On your host PC go to 'Tools' > 'Options' and select 'Sharing'. Check the box 'Share my collection on the network'. In most cases you don't have to change any of the other options. On your remote PC do the same as before; select 'File' from the menu and then 'Open Database' now choose 'Select Shared Database' and enter your host PC's info e.g. IP address or Host name and PW if needed. Test your connection and if it works you are good to go. I actually combined the two methods meaning that I have my DB stored on a NAS that I can access from each instance. I also enabled 'Sharing' on each instance of DVD Profiler, so if I should forget to shut down one instance, I can remotely connect to it. You will have an option to choose the DB when you start DVD Profiler, using the pop-up window.
