CueCat missing barcode digits

Just bought a CueCat scanner and have found all my USA discs scan fine, but when I scan UK or Australia discs in, it seems to miss the last digit (checksum digit?) and DVD Profiler doesn't recognise the discs.

I have then been adding them to my database manually (surrpised as to how many titles were missing) until I just discovered that if I hand type the full barcode in, the titles are in fact on the database.

Any clues to find my missing scanned digit? A bulk of my discs are non USA and my CueCat is now looking not so helpful!

Is there a way I can go back into these dud entries and add the extra barcode digit?

to go back and edit it select the profile then go to the file menu -> DVD -> Change UPC
then just add the missing digit.

it's probably not calculating the check digit because of slight differences between the types of barcode in USA and UK (upc vs ean - don't remember the specifics but basically one is a subset of the other) and your cuecat is probably not configured correctly for those barcodes. I'm not familiar enough with the cuecat to tell you how to set it up but perhaps someone else who has one can help

Thanks. I wonder if the DVD Profiler software can be altered so that it calculates and adds the missing barcode checksum digit for UK and Australian releases?

Can you elaborate this a bit? As a longtime CueCat-Owner I was under the impression that it is impossible to configure it in any way.

When I scan any barcode, the cat just throws the number in.
a package of band-aids on my desk: 29030828
strange things from my Windows 7 package: 00184026526563, glg-055968, 842254991864, vb075453834 (don't worry, I changed some random digits afterwards)
so even letters are perfectly possible and my CueCat never dropped any digits from either UPC or EAN.

Do you have a scanner and could you provide an scan from one or two of those covers? at least 200dpi and a lossless(!) format like GIF or PNG should work. I'd like to give them a swipe with my CueCat.

I have done some graphic scans of four BluRay discs that won't scan properly in DVD Profile with CueCat. If anyone would like to try them yourself let me know and I will email them to you.

Thanks. Adam

Just tried those 4, all 13digits show up in a simple text-editor as well as in the Profiler dialogs.
So the problem really seems to be your CueCat. How was it modified? Do you use some kind of software that might interfere?

cya, Mithi

PS to elaborate that: my CueCat is hardware-modified, and really scans anything remotely resembling a barcode. Back in Profiler v2 we used only part of the UPCs/EANs and I was desperately looking for a behavior like you describe but couldn't find it.

I purchased it last week from www.librarything.com and I am using it unmodified. De-clawing by cutting the single pin on the IC is easy enough to do, but thought I would try it unmodified first. Out with the side-cutters!

It is the USB version.
