For discIDs we always try and use the Standardized descriptors when possible.

Main Feature (for the movie) and Bonus Materials (for the special features).  When going through the Combo Blu-ray + DVD releases I have there seems to be no standardize method of entering the disc ID descriptors.

So far what I have seen is;

Blu-ray disc is entered as "Main Feature", "Main Feature (BD)", "Main Feature (BluRay)", and "BluRay"

DVD disc is entered as "Bonus Materials", "Main Feature (DVD)", and "DVD"

So far the ones that include a digital copy are just listed as "Digital Copy".

How do we think these combo releases should be profiled?

Since we enter the DVD as a child of the BD then the DVD ID should NOT be a part iof the data for the BD profile except as the child to the parent.

Hadn't noticed this Tracer. Thanks for pointing it out. I agree a standard should be set but it really doesn't matter to me what that standard is. If I had to pick it would be one of the options that have the disk type in them.

I do not believe this is correct.  Per the Rules, the child profile is optional.

For those who have no interest in adding the child profile to their collection, it is important that the parent include both disc IDs.  Thsi is the same concept as is used for TV Season profiles.

Both disc IDs should simply say "Main Feature", IMHO.

BTW, while we are on this type of topic, I have heard rumors of some real challenges either out already or comming. Double-sided discs...BD on one side...DVD on the other. Sounds like fun....NOT.

This seems like it would be handled exactly the same way as if they were on separate discs.  Main profile for BD, child profile using side b disc ID for child.

While i understand that Hal, it seems bizzarre to me, as there is different information on the DVD than on the BD and that information cannot properly segregated and captured under a single profile, you wind up with a single clump of poorly defined data, which belongs to the BD and which to the DVD.

BTW, Rick i have a recommendation to make for you but it's off topic and involves A Fistful of Dollars.

From what I understand for single releases or ones we profile with the Bonus Feature Film rule we enter all disc IDs for that release.  Only on Box Sets do we not enter disc IDs on the main profile.  But I'm agreeable to what the community thinks.

I agree.  I don't know why anyone would want to use a single profile without the child profile, but I'm sure some people couldn't care less about the "SD" version and not be interested in profiling it at all.

Different strokes for different folks.

And to make this even more complicate...there are discs that have Standard DVD and Digital Copy on the same disc.

Yeah that is something new that Warner has started doing I'm sure others will soon follow.

Probably we should do like we have in the past with some combinations. Example;

Main Feature (DVD) + Digital Copy

Just a suggestion.

I don't see that as an issue, Kulju. The only question regarding DCs is are they there, they are a Feature of the title or not, we don't and can't track them independently save by Manual profile for those so inclined.

Yeah something I didn't think of since we now have a tick box for Digital Copy.  Should they even be added to the DiscID info.  My feelings is no.

well if definitely shouldn't be BluRay as that is wrong, Blu-ray or BD would be correct

Also, just an FYI for those that may not be fully up on all the new rules (like me )

Quote:
Sets containing the same film on multiple media types (such as a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack) are to be entered as a normal profile for the main media type (Blu-ray in this example), with all included media types checked. A combo which includes HD media (HD-DVD, Blu-ray) as well as DVD should use the details from the HD media in the main profile. However, you may add an additional profile by Disc ID for the DVD content and add this profile to the Box Set contents for the Blu-ray profile.

so the way i read it is if you don't download\use the optional child profile you only have the HD media's info\specs not the DVD (though the DVD media type will still be checked)

Correct Agrare, you will simply "undefined" data, what is BD data and what is DVD data. The ONLY way to segregate the data is via Parent-Child profiles.
