Some of the newer DVD discs and Probably most Blu-Rays discs have [SDH] Subtitling for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing instead of the [CC] Closed Caption either on the discs itself and printed on the back cover.  I suggest that you add [SDH] in the features section to your next version.  [SDH] and [CC] options would be fantastic.

I would rather see this implemented in the Subtitles section. In stead of just English, we could have

English
English SDH
English CC

I think we may also need German SDH. I'm not aware of other subtitles using SDH. If this is available in a lot of languages, a better idea may be a field split, like we have with the audio tracks. The second field would have 3 options: blank, SDH, CC

But I love the idea to track this.

Has there ever been a text commentary during a movie?

Agree with Chris... much rather see it in the subtitles section. I always wondered why CC was in features instead of subtitles anyway.

I don't remember seeing this personally... but since the rules covers both Audio and Text commentaries I would guess they are out there.

I don't know if there are text-only commentaries, but I know that there are subtitled audio commentaries.

Not text commentaries, but subtitled audio commentaries.

I would like this information in audio too, for commentaries and audio descriptive tracks.

No doubt because they are technically different, but since they are functionally equivalent they should logically be in the same section.

They serve the same function, but SDH subtitles work on any player and CC frequently doesn't.

Also, there have been flat out text commentaries like the Okuda commentaries on the Star Trek movies.

But if the CC info were in the Subtitle section that basically wouldn't change anything for the information.

Agreed. CC is a different breed than simple subtitles. I would consider it more of a disc feature than simply a subtitle, since not all players and TV's can display CC.

A bit OT, but I was under the impression that CC is part of the TV signal and is decoded by the TV set, so the limitation is in the TV, not in the player. Is that not correct?

I could be wrong here, but I don't think DVD players (PAL format) sold in Europe/Australia can even decode a CC signal from a disc since it's purely an NTSC signal.
