Hey folks,

before I change alot of my profiles I wanted to ask about the nice new Group Dividers.

I understand the usage the following, correct me if I am wrong

Now we have for example:

Peter    Zombie
Chris    Zombie
Marc    Zombie
Mike    Zombie

With the new Dividers I change that to:

Zombie (that is the Group Start Divider)
  Peter
  Chris
  Marc
  Mike
-------------------------------------- (thats the Group End Divider)

I guess that is the correct usuage ?

cheers

There is a discussion about the new dividers in the Beta forum. You might want to check it out.

In my opinion, you're change would be correct.

Agree as well...though I would think 'Zombies', not just 'Zombie'.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

That would be correct given that the actual credits contain a group heading of "Zombies" with the names listed below.

I've seen credits where the names are each listed individually with the role after them.  Group dividers would not be appropriate for them.

Well, it is exactly as I said, each cast member has Zombie written after him,
But that is what the group dividers are invented for I thought, so does the MArtian , Addicted and reybr, you think different HAL, which is no problem

I will go checkout the discussion in the Beta forum now :D

Just read the Beta thread, but my case is a bit different.

In some movies you have like 20 people listed exactly like this:

dfsf  Gang member
dfef  Gang member
desf  Gang member
dfsf  Gang member
dfwf  Gang member
dfsf  Gang member
wfsf  Gang member
dfsf  Gang member

my opinion is that we use the group dividers for those things.

Of course we use em too when credits look like this:

Gang Members:

dsfs
dfsdf
sdfsdf
fds
fsd
dsfsdf
sdsdf

I think this should make no difference, for both examples I would use the group dividers.

But it seems we will not agree on the same thing

So it would be nice if Ken steps in and tells us what he wants.

If each cast member has "Zombie" as his role then no, you wouldn't role them up into a divider.  Each cast member keeps his credit and the new features of the Beta should not change that.

Dividers are there to represent headers for sections of credits.

I would have agreed with those in the thread who agreed with you had you not clarified what you really were describing.

Your opinion perhaps but not the reality of how things have been done in my experience.

Dividers may be distributed amongst cast who have no other role but i've never seen multiple cast with a common role have it rolled up into a divider.

I have no problem with both outcomes, I just do not want to change all my profiles twice

And so far we have people who support both ways.

I agree... You want to make it exactly as it is in the credits.

If in the credits it has...

Zombies
  Peter
  Chris
  Marc
  Mike

then that is how it should be in profiler.

But if it is actually...

Peter    Zombie
Chris    Zombie
Marc    Zombie
Mike    Zombie

in the credits... then it should be  that way in profiler. The biggest thing is to match the credits as closely as possible.

What if the credits are formatted like this:

role name A – actor name
role name B – actor name
role name C – actor name
                      actor name
                      actor name
                      actor name
role name D – actor name
role name E – actor name

So four actors share the same role, but there's no real "divider".

for such a case as that... I would just repeat "role name C" for those 4 actors. I personally wouldn't leave it blank as that would just make it look like the role names for that profile was incomplete.

Hmm, with Tim's example I would definitely go with the new Group Dividers, makes more sense to me
If we repeat the role name we invent data that is not in the credits, there is a reason that the role name is only written one time in the credits.

Especially when its written like this:

Cook - actor
The Greenwood Boys - actor
                                actor
                                actor
Gang member - actor

If we would repeat the role it would also be gramatically wrong, Boys is plural, and if we change it into singular, we would change the data that is on screen.
