Seriously, though, as I replace DVDs with Blu ray, I donate the DVDs to the VA Hospital (Veteran's Administration, for you non-U.S. folks).

| | Posted: | | | | I sell (and trade) DVD's from my collection all the time. Mostly its ones that I've replaced on Blu-ray, or purchased newer DVD editions that effectively make the old DVD obsolete.
I don't sell them off right away of course. I make certain that the new release really is superior in every way, or else I'll probably just hang on to it. Otherwise, I have little need to keep them eating up my shelf space.
Case in point:
The House on Sorority Row DVD (1983) - the old DVD from Elite had a nice Progressive transfer. The new "25th Anniversary Edition" uses the same transfer (with colors tweaked a little) but downgrades it to Interlaced for some reason.

| | Posted: | | | | I only sell/give away titles if I've got a newer version that's a decent upgrade. Most of the early Blu-ray titles lacked in extras so there I've kept the DVD version as well. |

| | Posted: | | | | Over the past year I've weeded about 200 movies from my collection. Stuff I got at the height of my DVD addiction that I really shouldn't have ever purchased but did because they were cheap. I'll probably cull another couple of hundred this year.
The last batch was sold at a garage sale, and I'll probably do the same with the next batch. At $3 a pop, it adds up when you get rid of a lot of movies at once.

Now I just give my unwanted copies to family and friends, unless it's a blu-ray or HD DVD that they can't play. Honestly though i don't want an entire collection of films mastered in some 50 year old resolution. Blu-ray is what i have been waiting for and im more than happy to wait for a lot of films to make it to the format while i enjoy watching what's already available on the format. |
