Profiler won't start (damaged layout) - solved

Is there a way I can load DVD Profiler with the standard layout?

I was playing with my layout and got a crash, after this DVD Profiler won't load complete.
Splash screen is loading complete but doesn't remove after opening. Removing the splash screen didn't help.

Hope someone can help me. I could reinstall, but if there is another way I would prefer this.

I know there is a way... but for the life of me I cannot remember what Ken said. And can't find the post now.

Something like start and hold down Ctrl  or was it start and hold down Alt? Something like that? Hopefully someone else here remembers for sure.

Thanks, tried this, but after 5 minutes my fingers hurt. 

But I just have to wait long enough then DVDP starts. But 15 minutes is too long and so much longer it ever used to start.

I think I won't come around a reinstall.

Maybe 2 approaches could help to solve the problem (I can't test it here on my work because I have no profiler here - anyway, this should be handled with care!)

- try to assign the default layout to the profiler in the registry settings. (You could search the registry for the damaged layout name).

or

- rename the faulty layout in the appropriate folder. (AFAIR ending is *.dpl)

If you only reinstall the profiler it may happen that the same problem occurs because the reference to existing damaged layout still resides in the registry setting and will not we overwritten.

Whatever you do: 1st perform a backup of the profiler db and/or registry!!

Another user at the German profiler forum had a similar problem (for him Profiler always crashed on startup and reinstall didn't help the matter). After a lot of search the solution was to delete the following file:
Layout.dpl
which can be found in
C:\Documents and Settings\<User name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Invelos_Software (English OS)
C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\<Benutzername>\Lokale Einstellungen\Anwendungsdaten\Invelos_Software (German OS)

plus for Standard Profiler version:
DefaultDomain_Path_oewc3vnhafd1zdbtci5yqamgeckzp2la\1.0.0.0

plus for Beta Profiler version:
\DefaultDomain_Path_3pd0a11p1vbqbodgfgp0wpq1el5y0gvf\1.0.0.0


P.S. You have to have hidden folders enabled.

Niece ideas, thanks. 

Tried both, but didn't help. 
So I will try to delete all other Layouts, without the default layouts. Let's see what happens.

The last one is probably only there, if you use plugins which are using .NET.
The user who had this problem said, that he did find the file layout.dpl when looking around at this location.

Had to delete layout.dpl + layout.dpl.bak
