I wanted to know your opinion abaut two new box set I want to make profiles for:
Alla vi barn i Bullerbyn / Mer om oss barn i Bullerbyn
Du är inte klok Madicken / Madicken på Junibacken
Both double features based on Astrid Lindgren books.

Both box sets are in a slip case (with EAN/UPC) with two included Keep Cases (also with EAN/UPC).
The included keep cases/movies are over EAN/UPC in the database. The movies in this new box set have the same EAN/UPC but are rereleases.

So can I make a new parent and add the childs over Disc ID (No profiles yet in database), so that the rerelease covers are in the database?
Or must I link the existing profiles to the new parent?

Thanks for your help in advance.

I would use the existing profiles, unless there are significant differences. And I know, that begs the question what "significant" means. Just as difficult as common sense...

One advantage of not multiplying profiles is that you benefit from any updates to the original profiles.

There is nothing in the rules to prevent you creating new profiles by Disc ID. By the same token there's also nothing in there to stop you following Staid's advice.

I would use the EANs.

I feel that the use of Disc IDs are getting out of hand. There are people submitting by Disc ID just because the title has received a new cover. In my opinion, that is not what Disc Ids are for. They are there for those releases that don't have an EAN/UPC

Agreed, disc IDs should be only used for discs that don't have UPC/EAN that would normally allow them to be entered.  The rules tell us to enter titles by UPC/EAN unless they don't have a UPC.  The rules also tell us how to enter boxset child profiles and the same with TV series child profiles.  The rules don't say use the Disc ID just because you don't want to use the UPC.

When contributing a title by UPC, make sure the UPC is entered in this format. Do not contribute titles with "made up" or otherwise inaccurate UPCs. If a title does not have a UPC, then add the title by Disc ID, using your DVD-ROM drive.

Thanks all for your opinions.

Sounds all very logical. I will add the childs over EAN/UPC, even if the box set never was sold with this covers, ...
