I'm having some issus with a DVD I have

It is a triple feature (Anthony hopkins) it contains The bounty, Desperate hours and the sileence of the lambs

I try to input via the upc which is 883904100843 but nothing for it comes up

I didnt want to do via " inscert disc"  as I dont want them to be individual entries

I feel really stupid asking this question but how do I add it in so that the 3 movies will be child profiles

Are there three seperate disc?

I would make a new entry/profile over UPC as parent
then add the three single discs over disc Id
then assign this three discs/profiles to the parent profile.

I think this is the best way.

You can also add just one new profile over UPC which does not contain childs for the single discs. (Also seen sometimes, but imho not a good solution)

I just checked and no one has contributed that DVD yet. If there is only one disc do the following:

All you need to do is enter the UPC and click on "Add DVD" which is located on the lower right part of the screen.

On the next screen that pops up double check the UPC and enter the Title. This will allow you to enter the DVD into your local database.

You can edit the profile at this time - there is a small box to tick located under the locality. If you do decide to edit the profile, and you are unfamiliar how do do so, be sure and read the contribution rules.

If you have any questions you can always come back and ask in the forums. Good luck!

I think Kathy's post should help for the first steps.
If you need further help just ask.

Like Kathy said reading the rules is helpful to contribute the correct things.

Follow the directions I gave above and enter the UPC and title. This will be the "box set" part of the DVD because it contains more than one movie. This will be "the parent". The title is important and should match what is on the DVD cover.

You will then enter each of the 3 films via the disc id. These will be "the children".

Once all 4 sets of data you go to "the parent" > edit profile > Box Set Contents. Once you tick the Box Set Contents you can enter each of the 3 DVD titles. This consolidates all of the basic information you have entered into the database together.

Once you have done all that you can edit each movie individually. The UPC parent does not contain a lot of information - see the box set rules. But, the children will contain all the data of every other film.

One way to make your job easier is to find each of the individuals movies in the database. Add them to your database temporarily. Change the "Sort Title" so that they are next to each other in your collection. For example - if the title of your "parent" is Anthony Hopkins Trilogy I would sort these 3 temporary DVDs as Anthony Hopkins 1, Anthony Hopkins 2 and Anthony Hopkins 3.

The reason I did the above is so that I can copy and paste all the data into my new contribution. This is so that you have most of your work already done for you. But, and this is important, you must check that all the data is correct by checking it against your DVD cover and the DVD credits. For example the overview will not be correct.

How to copy and paste:

Go to the temporary DVD title > DVD (the same place you would add a DVD to your collection) > Copy.

Now go to the same movie that you own in the triple feature > Paste. You have the option to pick what elements you want to paste - I would choose all and then delete or change any information as I check the data against the DVD credits or cover.

Do this for all three films.

Some layouts do not have the copy paste in the drop down menu. You can add this by right clicking on any movie in your list and click on customize this menu, next on the Commands Tab find DVD and select it, on the right side scroll down to Copy and drag/drop it on the now small top part of the menu you started with. If you hold your mouse curser over it for a second, it will expand and you can move down it to where you want the Copy to be in the menu. Repeat for Paste.

I'm confused. You said you don't want them as individual entries but then you said you want to add it so they are child profiles. Child profiles are individual entries, they are just assigned to a parent (which Kathy describes how to do in her second post).

Of course it's very likely that the discs included with this set are the same as those for the individual release (that's how my sets like this have been) so if you add by disc id you will most likely be prompted to download the profiles for the individual release. You could leave these as the UPC profiles for your local but for contributing purposes they would need to be changed to disc id profiles (highlight the profile, insert the disc, then from the menu DVD->Change UPC and then check use inserted disc)

then all you need to do is modify the information that is different (cover scans, srp, release date, etc). The cast\crew should match since its the same disc (but you can check it for errors) then you can contribute it as new stating what info you got from the upc profile (give the upc) and which you corrected to the release.
